Final thrift of 2024. Seems odd to find it right before new years.

I've got a similar brooks bros cashmere that's probably my favorite cashmere sweater. Almost twice as thick as any other cashmere I've handled and has both the softness of Italian cashmere with the sturdy robustness of old school Scottish cashmere. Can't count how many BB sweaters I've seen but never found another one like this one. PXL_20250101_010315664.jpg

Happy new year thrift bros! Browsing this thread always brings a little brightness to my day no matter what.

Happy new year all,

This was one stop with a good sale. Nothing crazy in this pile, but this plus the next pic had a ppu of a little under $2.

Vtg krizia black velvet shawl collar buttonless blazer with paillettes. Seriously…

Drove my ppu up at $4

Really nice details on this. Contrast pick stitching hand sewn lapel/collar detail, functional cuffs with mop buttons.

Pop finally. This place usually prices up nice ties prohibitively but the old sales tag was covering the Hermes wording, obscuring the truth from the pricer, and perhaps not only the staff

I've got the same sweater but in Navy Blue, folded up in a ziploc bag somewhere. When I first found it I remember wearing it several times a week for months before losing weight I think. I should go dig that out...

hey ya'll, happy new year.

recently got back into thrifting after being out for a few years because i was bored. first few stores i hit up didn't garner much, almost quit again. but then the next few i hit some pretty cool stuff, will post soon. anyway, left a few cool coats and suits behind mostly wool because of stains. what's the go-to technique these days? cheers

Burberry wool overcoat with a zip-out lining. Those little white spots in the photos are on the mirror, not the coats.

The nearer image shows the pattern of the fabric. (the glen check on the left is a worn Oxxford blazer I don't wear any more - this is a basement closet where I keep longer overcoats, convenient to grab there before heading out).

Louis Boston overcoat, probably cashmere wool (tags don't say).

Neither was traditional thrift from a store. My late father-in-law's closets have been a time capsule for a few years because my mom-in-law couldn't bear to enter when he passed after a long illness. Having made some new friends and gotten to a better emotional place, we're now assessing how to address his wardrobe. I don't need more men's clothing, but when we were trying to figure out what to do with all of it, we saw a Burberry trench that worked for our son, and these worked for me.

Any suggestions on how to donate or re-home a lot of fine men's clothes without becoming an Ebay, Poshmark, or Etsy person? I lack the bandwidth for that, and none of us need the money. Cashmere Brooks Bros. overcoats in camel hair & navy, a bunch of other topcoats of various lengths and styles (some for golf, some purely casual). At least 100 blazers (mostly older Brooks, some Italian, some European private-labeled for a Pittsburgh fine clothing store, several Oxxford), roughly a dozen suits (similar distribution), a few hundred shirts that are mostly casual/sporty patterns - Ralph Lauren, Brooks, etc, lots of Edward Green, Ralph Lauren, Brooks shoes. I can't see sending these to the local Goodwill - they're better off with people who need something nice for interviews or jobs & can't afford the clothes.

Emphasizing - not looking to sell anything here, or anywhere else really. Just trying to find inspiration or knowledge for how to put these with people who would appreciate them in some kind of organized, scalable way. They're all in far better shape than one would find at a typical thrift store (spent some quality time with one of our daughters & spouse in some very nice thrift stores in Brooklyn/Williamsburg recently).

none of us need the money
You don't hear that a lot on this thread, lol! Please post your general location, as I'm sure any thread denizen that lives nearby would happily find a way to get this distinguished wardrobe to grateful end-users. Alternatively, there are a bunch of thread members who accept consignments (@capnwes and others) who would be happy to work reselling this collection and sharing the consignment proceeds with your family (notwithstanding the statement quoted above).

It's been a few. Had some real job deadlines and a jaw surgery that kept me out of the game for awhile, but the past week has been a lot of fun. I've kept up with the thread and I had a lot of FOMO while people were raking.

Found this on the curb a week ago and need to refinish it. Vintage Lane Rhythm end table.

First time finding bespoke Timothy Everest. This was SO close to fitting me, alas it has working cuffs and is too short for my ape arms.

Nicest suit I've found in awhile. J Press Pressidential with fancy fabric.

Keep on rocking it, everyone! Hope the new year treats you all well.

I appreciate the response. We (mother-in-law who is a senior citizen and us) live in the Washington, DC metro area. I'm sure my mother-in-law would explore consignment if it were an option.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
