I weighed my union standard 16,25 oz and my east west 15,9 oz, and they weighed similar. They both definitely feel different though, as the union standard feels less smooth and soft than the east wests. It could of course just be due to the different washes.
Where does it say the Union Standard is 16.25 oz?

Anyone know which lookbook the recent limited edition olive vintage fit buckleback jeans are in? Just got a pair for a steal by pure dumb luck but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the buckleback and the back beltloop to cooperate and was hoping to see how it’s styled in the lookbooks.

Are you just not supposed to use that last beltloop? Or is the intention that the buckleback is tucked underneath and not visible when wearing a belt?
Confusion about the bucklebacks continues!! I've lamented this issue recently; see below posts. I don't understand it and probably never will. I've asked a couple SAs and they don't really know either!
If you want to look back at the posts and the surrounding discussion, they are numbers 46695, 46700, and 46704.

I agree, I like the way bucklebacks look and I appreciate their historical accuracy, but I always wear a belt, both for looks and for function. What I don't understand is the placement of the buckleback. Sometimes, it's below the waistband, so you can wear a belt and the buckleback can be fully seen and adjusted. Other times, it's placed halfway onto the waistband, so the belt collides with it and basically scrunches it down. In cases like this, I remove the buckleback and sew it back on about a half inch lower. Then it looks right to me, and it doesn't interfere with a belt. Other times, it's entirely on the waistband, which means a belt completely covers it. It seems to me it should be either entirely on the waistband or entirely below it; when it's halfway on the waistband it doesn't make sense. I'm just so confused about it; I need to pick up the pieces of my shattered life and move on!

Seriously, when the buckleback is partially on the waistband and gets in the way of a belt, how do you guys wear it? Like I said, I remove the buckleback and sew it back on about half an inch lower, but that's kind of a nuisance and it changes the designer's intent. I really don't quite get it.

OEM - The buckleback is in the way of a belt.

Do you think this is better?

Yes, indeed you can! But it can be a problem in two instances:
1. Sometimes they're held onto denim with copper rivets, and if you grind them off, they will leave holes.
2. If the garment is heavily washed/faded, the fabric underneath will be noticeably darker than the rest.
But in most cases, you can remove them without any trace.

Can someone identify the jacket in the lower left corner of this Instagram post? As you see it is from 30 Nov so should be in current collection.

I would think you don’t wear a belt with a working buckle back. But then again, why are there belt loops lol. I’ve a Corneliani suit by Ralph that has working side belts and no loops. The mystery of the buckle back continues…

Exactly. When the buckleback is in the way of a belt, and if it's supposed to be worn without a belt, then why are there belt loops?!
I'm 99% side adjustor guy on suit, but for jeans I'm 100% belt loop, not sure if I would wear one with buckle back for real (as in not wearing belt)
I'm with you on that - I always wear a belt. But I also think the buckleback looks pretty cool, so I relocate it below the waistband. I guess from behind, buckleback pants look fine without a belt. But from the front, without a belt, it looks like you haven't finished dressing.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
