Anyone know which lookbook the recent limited edition olive vintage fit buckleback jeans are in? Just got a pair for a steal by pure dumb luck but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the buckleback and the back beltloop to cooperate and was hoping to see how it’s styled in the lookbooks.

Are you just not supposed to use that last beltloop? Or is the intention that the buckleback is tucked underneath and not visible when wearing a belt?
I got these and I wear mine with the belt over the buckle and just don't utilize that back belt loop. It's the compromise I've made because of my love for olive, but you get used to it.

Maybe this would be too difficult to maneuver, but can you unfasten the buckle and then refasten it underneath the belt loop? Then you could put the belt completely over it.

This was the first thing I tried and it was aesthetically horrendous. And I don't care if no one can see it; it's all I'd be thinking about when a coworker is telling me about his wife's lasagna 🤣

Sort of, but the strap is still too high and will get in the way of a belt, unless it's a very narrow one. I know, we are brutally beating this topic to death, and I'm the main antagonist!
To be honest, it's such a bad design that it deserves a severe beating. I sold two pairs of pants because of this. Lesson learned.

Seriously though I think ~50% of people who bought that jacket on this thread downsized, I’m also a 5’7”, 145lb type of guy…

Yeah, 6' and 167 lb, and probably could have gone with the S to be honest, but I like the easy fit of the M, so not really all that bummed I didn't size down

Those olives were initially a must-buy, but I changed my mind for some reason. They even had my size left during the sale. Now I'm glad avoided the headache.
A truly valid option is to cut the straps off, like it shows in that historical article zippy posted. It would probably feel disconcerting to take a pair of shears to a $500 pair of jeans, but if you know you're always going to wear a belt maybe you could look at it not as an act of destruction but as a way of customizing them for yourself. You'd probably have to psyche yourself up to do it, but then you'd be able to enjoy them and not look back. I've modified garments in irreversible ways, all in the name of customization, with very few regrets.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
