I have several saved searches in eBay that I look at each day. These are all for rare shell. I see a pair that came up tonight. Something that I’ve never seen before. They don’t fit me, but wanted to share with the group.

I have a pair in #8 and have seen a pair in Whiskey when visiting California this past summer...but haven't seen chukkas in Ravello (that I'm aware of). Thanks for sharing

@Markintosh and @JTMD

The Shoe Mart also offered a Ravello Chukka Boot in June 2023…I’ve never seen the boot, but I did get the announcement email. Did anyone get in on that order?

This is @Thrift Couture. Really good dude and like me, a consistently inconsistent active poster. I’d reach out to him directly on this site if you’re interested as most SF’ers provide fellow SF’ers a non-eBay discount.

That’s good to know thank you. I have a search for color 4 - there is a brand new pair of LHS in 11 D - I wear an 11 E is it crazy to think I could stretch that D into an E?

Man @Markintosh, that’s a conundrum. I would love a C4 LHS. Unfortunately the answer is yes, it would be crazy to think you can stretch a D to E. The search continues…….

No Alden’s for me today and this may be the first time since I received my Ravello/C4 U-tips a couple weeks ago that I’ve had anything else on my feet. I love the look and fit (always touch-and-go w/Barrie) and have worn them hard. Here’s a pic after yesterday’s wear before wiping…….

Never thought I’d write this but I’m kind of diggin the brass.

Thanks……I think. Yenni redid her U-tip C8 make in Ravello for her 10-year Anny. Initially, I actually preferred the C8 make but it has been sold out for a while. As soon as I opened the box, my preference changed.

That is a fantastic color of Ravello! Hopefully, we will see more of that in the future.

I was browsing eBay, and I was astonished by these:

The style is so different from anything that I would expect from Alden these days with the almost tennis-shoe-like piecing together of little scraps of leather and the chunky Vibram on a shoe. Although cannot find anything about this model on Google, the numbers on the inside sidewall, the footbed, and the imprint on the sole all seem consistent with a real Alden. The footbed is an older style, and from my memory of popular shoe styles, I am guessing 1990s. Personally, I am glad that Alden has moved on, but their ability to stretch away from their core styles continues to impress me.

EDIT: I am seeing that Leather Soul ran a somewhat similar design in 2010, but without the Vibram I think. Somehow, it seems more appealing in Hawaii... The Leather Soul design is also cleaner and more classic without the criss-crossing seams of the design on Ebay.

Nice uniform creasing...great looking boots, I think the brass goes so well with these...

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
