Off topic-but does anyone have any experience with the University Club in downtown?

I was thinking of joining, but wanted to hear opinions first.
I have a friend with a lifetime membership. He really enjoys it, particularly the social events. It's way out of my financial league, and I think there are better (and much cheaper) avenues if you're interested in improving your social life, but it might work for you.

What’re you looking for? Theyre a mess. There’s an old saying in Washington:

“those with money join metropolitan. Those with brains join cosmos. Those with neither join university.”

you couldn’t pay me to join. Their finances are a mess & they keep raising dues because they’re totally mismanaged.

I say this as someone with friends on the board & on the board of admissions. It’s a trap. Don’t get sucked in.

Perhaps the only good thing about it is the reciprocity. They have good reciprocity with other clubs, but New York athletic club & union league club in Philadelphia both charge extra to visit the club if you aren’t staying there these days. Actually most New York clubs do that.

Somehow the bespoke discussions didn't do it, but the past couple of posts have made me realize I'm way out of my socioeconomic bracket. I'll stick to DC Fray for my club dues.

I'll continue getting a turkey club at subway now and again.

I considered joining the Army-Navy Club a while back but they don't offer much. Kind of stuffy and not much of a draw anymore. Reciprocity with British Army Club kinda neat but maybe only once.

I’m a member there, I rarely use it….

Maybe next get together (after the no man get together) starts there at the bar for drinks?

Every time I was at the Army-Navy Club it was retired military guys now working as Defense Contractors and schmoozing clients.

It’s a hotel as well so maybe worth it if you come into town on business a lot.

Honestly, mostly just drink… It’s essentially a members only bar/restaurant/lounge….

If we want to meet for drinks sometime, I’ll sponsor the group.

I was going through the pictures and can honestly say these places don't appeal to me. I think I would rather take people into dc and wine and dine them at a nice restaurant.
