I'm interested in getting the gray wool games trousers. They seem versatile, as opposed to most flannels that are too dressy for my tastes. However, that $595 price is nauseating. Can anyone recommend an alternative that hits the same fit/style?

Also, I have a few pairs of Drake's knee-high wool socks from back when they offered a discounted price for buying three at a time (RIP). Does anyone have a similar brand/model they recommend? Thanks!

I just went down this road.

I wanted a pair of grey wool trousers that felt more casual. Everything felt too formal or too frumpy.

I ended up buying these https://aubinandwills.com/products/helethorpe-wool-trouser-charcoal

I’ve never bought from this brand before, but I saw them in the window of their shop on Carnaby Street, tried them on, and bought them. Old world! They have a nice mid/ high rise, and the fleck in the fabric makes them feel much more casual than a traditional flannel. I do not love the red stitching on the back pocket buttons, and may remove it at some point.

Maybe you want something with a subtle single pleat or a fabric with some texture?

They look like a pile of **** on the model, they hang a lot more neatly on me.

Drake's price-point for OTR is arguably understandable given (insert totality of globalist business costs, here) (please don't flame-war my weasly equivocality).

However, higher end made-to-measure are these same prices, or nearly so, from my limited experience. And after the front end process of finding a maker, developing the relationships, etc. the clothes I have on the other side fit far better, with improved details - for a similar price.

For socks, for folks in the states (free shipping!): https://boardroomsocks.com

Love the idea of this thread. Thanks to all contributors for the solid intel.

I bought a pair of the Dukeflex from Astorflex on recommendation and they are head and shoulders above any other desert boots I’ve tried. The leather midsole adds a world of comfort compared to other makers.

Any recommendations for sports jackets to be worn casually in the Drakes manner, without the drakes price tag? My ideal would soft shouldered, 3/2 buttons.
Another very happy Dukeflex owner here. I actually got the Crosby and the Dukeflex at the same time with the promise of easy return of either.

Started with a slight preference for the Crosby. I followed sizing advise and pretty much went up a full size to 10.5 UK and was happy with the fit. Have to admit, quite enjoyed the Bond connection too.

Had them both for a few days switching back and forth and really started to appreciate the Dukeflex's more 'boot' like profile and also couldn't ignore the fact that the Drake's were twice the price and after further internetting, discovered that the Crosby is almost certainly made by Astorflex.

In short, kept the Dukeflex and got my money back on the Drake's which went towards a 2nd pair of Dukeflex in Whisky. Highly recommended.

Has anyone compared Drakes knit ties to other knit ties made in germany advertised as "crunchy" as well? I LOVE drakes knits but goddamn I cant stomach $255 for a silk knit tie. They have doubled in price in the last 6 years, it seems like.

I am pretty sure https://ascot.de/ is the maker, and assume they make for a number of other retailers who carry german made knits, but always wondered if they are all the same product or if there are actually different grades made for different retailer price points. Anyone have knits from different retailers they can compare directly to a Drakes knit?

They are identical (except the retailer's margin).

Every silk knit tie "Made in Germany" you will find is from Ascot. They do two lines/grades of knit ties, higher grade is "cruchy" one (so called "Variante Flachstrick"), which is according their page "The most sophisticated but also more complicated one that is made on our 16 metres long flat-bed knitting machines".
Long story short: If you buy any "crunchy" silk knit tie made in Germany from any retailer (Drake's, Shibumi Firenze etc.), you have the tie identical to the highest grade knit tie by Ascot.

Ah, great. That's good info. Thanks!

I definitely won't be spending the money on a drakes version, then. Some things there are worth the uncharge, but when you can get a silk knit made the exact same way from Shibumi or Kamakura for $100 or less...

While I can't say I'm surprised, Adamley's shipping to the US is brutal, nearly as expensive as the scarves themselves.

Any other USA folks who might be interested in a small group order to save on shipping? I'm happy to facilitate forwarding packages and local pickup/handoff in the NYC area. Feel free to PM me if interested

I sort of want the suede tote bag that is made in Italy. No interest in paying $750 USD though. Does anyone recognize the maker? Or any better value alternatives?

I really like the idea of suede tote as well. The design though… I don’t think it is perfect for me. Even Banana Republic charges 350$ so my guess is that we won’t find good ones for much less than 600$. The quality might be better elsewhere though - who knows. I might ask some leather artisan to make mto tote for me.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
