I may be an outlier, but I'd go with double leather soles for comfort all day over the commando and crepe (I don't own crepe but I suspect people find them comfortable for the same reason as commando).

The cushion-like give of the commando ( and I presume the plantation crepe) is similar to a running or cross trainer shoe. That actually creates greater instability and lack of support in my ankles. I've decided that I will no longer buy commando soles on shoes, just boots. For a guy who has had joint problems for a while the commando soled boots are now my favorite followed by double leather soled barrie shoes. I twist my ankles all the time when wearing running shoes. Ugh, getting old stinks!
My comment is definitely irrelevant, but if there was a Danite offering, I would buy most everything with that.

First non-Indy boot Alden sighting -- in Queens, NY of all places. I don't suppose it was anybody here? It looked like a ravello plain toe boot on commando - not something I've ever seen or heard of before. Could have been a plain toe blucher but definitely on commando. Felt like I saw Jay-Z in my living room or something. Time for professional help.

My first Aldens. Received these irregulars today from the recent Shoe Mart sale. Thank you to Michigan Planner for forwarding the sale list. Black shell, modified last. Very acceptable defects for the price: some glue slop on the inside of one which will rub right off, and a slight raised bump on one of the ankles. Maybe something else I missed. While they're not what was pictured in the flyer (plain toe), they'll be staying.

Those look fantastic. Quite the description misstep though. Did the model numbers match up?

A few small scratches like these and a slightly misaligned eye stay. I'm sure the scratches can brushed/ boned out and he eye stay isn't to bad. I've had worse for sure.

I'm the opposite. I try not to buy shoes now that don't have the commando sole. I've found through lots of trial and error that the commando is the most versatile and is the only one I can stand in most of the day without the shoes killing my feet. I don't gave ankle issues like you though so I'm just looking for something that keeps my heels and bottom of my feet from aching at the end of the day.
