Grabbed these from one of my favorite retailers (eyes swapped by the best in the business). Did a ton of running around yesterday and the rubber on leather is just so comfortable...........

Reposting one of my favorite shots, and this one from last Thursday. 10 minutes after posting (no exaggeration, timing is everything), I got the dreaded 'coach wants to see you, bring your playbook' call. Was planning on retiring April 30th but I guess my employer had other plans (undoubtably tired of me spending my days taking shoe pic's).........

No crocodile tears for me though. The plan was to walk out the door empty-handed (well, with a fair, not overly generous, pension). Now I get that plus a severance. Couldn't have written a better script if I tried.

Does mean I will be listing some more pieces sooner than planned but again, not at all a bad thing.

Happy halfway day gang. Have a great one!

Congratulations on your retirement. A little earlier than planned, but it sounds like it worked out. All the best, sir.

I’ve noticed some Alden models which are in collaboration with other brands lack the “Made in USA” stamp on the footbed. This is usually under the Genuine Leather and Alden mark.

I noticed this when I tried on a pair recently but didn’t think to enquire at the time. In fact no where on the shoe does it say they are made in USA.

Here are some examples…

Is there any meaning to this? Or am I overthinking it?
I means theres no way Alden shoes are made anywhere else right?
Overthinking, but very observant!

Congratulations on retirement! Am I reading this correctly that you got your pension + severance and are looking to SELL (not BUY) more Alden's???? Jk! Gonna miss your beautiful skyline shoe pics!

Nailed it @Hisheirness23 though I did just pick up a pair from a fellow SF'er earlier today (going to need therapy). The pension was always a given but the severance was a nice and unexpected development. As was having a couple of extra months of retirement.

Timing sounds as if it certainly worked out perfectly. Congrats...and you know...you can still keep shoes as a retirement hobby...no need to run off to Florida and pick up wandering the beach with a metal detector. 😅

I think the retailers get a lot of input on the design of their retailer specific footbed liner when they order custom make-ups from Alden. I can imagine that some retailers may not feel that it is helpful to emphasize "Made in America". I cannot see the retailer name in your second picture, but I could certainly believe that this might be the case for Drake's, which emphasizes their British heritage in their marketing.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
