More crepe under a really winning shade of ravello - overcast weather here in the northeast for the next few days but will get some better photos

I have both versions of these pennies (color 8 and ravello, which was a special limited run) - I have been toying with sending one pair to Aram to convert to a regular leather sole. Regardless I cannot recommend these loafers highly enough - Leffot is running a preorder for the color 8 ones. In addition to the crepe, the loafer fits better for me than the standard LHS as they added a higher vamp

Good grief, these are amazing. Alden is simply killin it with Ravello lately and considering a very welcome email I received roughly 5 minutes ago, I hope the streak continues.

I have a pair of Ranger Moc’s on crepe and I already sent Aram some pic’s to see if the storm welt would present a problem with going to a traditional single leather sole found on most LHS’s and he said it would not. I was convinced they would be going to him but now I’m back on the fence. I’ll be interested to see how yours looks if you go for it. Either way those are two amazing pieces you’ve picked up. Congrats!

That's a pretty good plan you lay out. Next summer I might have to do something right along those lines when the proper event pops up. As it happens, I also have a pair of white Dovers, and those are waaaaaaay easier to wear. At first glance they look like a sneaker, and nobody bats an eye at white sneakers.

Are your golf spikes vintage? I looked around for vintage welted Footjoys on ebay for a couple of years before giving up for a variety of reasons.
No courses now don’t allow spiked golf shoes so I wear the spikeless shoes that have rubber pegs on them. They’re similar to football shoes, but the pegs are much smaller. They’re footjoy premieres - leather, they’re pretty nice.

I’m assuming the higher vamp will accommodate people with a higher in-step? I’ve pre-ordered the color 8 model.

I’ll try to post a comparison photo this weekend

Correct. If unlined suede is tight, the cordovan will be, too. (Especially in a half size and full width down.)

Do you find that Alden’s shell loafers are lasted any differently from unlined suede loafers? Or are they lasted the same and unlined suede just stretches more with wear than shell?

This is just my own experience, but: I feel that suede just stretches more over time. That being said, calf always feels tighter than shell to me (even in the same shoe/last).

I wear an 11 E in this shoe. It’s funny I’ve got a pair that is black box calf and they fit perfectly. I recently purchased another pair, also 11 E - and they were a little tight so I sent them back. So with the higher vamp design I’m hoping they work - I love this look with the antique edge. I would have preferred a commando sole - this will be my first experience with crepe.

I’d bet on it.
To provide context, I looked at a pair of blue Cordovan wing tips at the Allen-Edmonds store close to my house yesterday. They have samples in the store that you can try on but you have to order them and you get them in nine weeks - asking price = $1495.

just got a batch of tobacco reverse chamois we've been waiting for 2+ years
the color is much lighter almost like snuff than the previous tobacco reverse chamois
bit of a fluke really.. digging the lighter color myself :)

Ya. Allen Edmonds have lost their damn minds with this “reserve” collection.

How does this fit look? There is a little space at the instep, particularly left. Space enough at heel so an index finger tip can be used instead of a horn. Minimal movement at heel which I wouldn’t exactly describe as a slip. Longest toe reaches outer apron stitching. Ball hits at widest point. Without socks I can slip feet in unaided.

Crew sock by Ivy Ellis.

For reference these are 11.5D. Happy with fit on 9901 in 11D.
