Heinrich! I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone else with these. They’re comfy. For some reason, I ALWAYS catch the toe on the sidewalk and scuff the edge. Freshly edge dressed this morning. Walk the dogs and BAM! Scuffed. 😞

How do you clean off the water spots from the rain? I have HM in burgundy shell and they always look awful if they get wet at all.
Quick brush. Then take a wet cotton rag, wring out all the water, and run it over the shoe. After it dries, (about 1-2mins) brush like crazy. Also, buff with a preferably wool sock or wool felty like material.

Alden sells a "rain defender" spray that supposedly makes it impervious to spots, but I was not satisfied with it.

Most of my shell shoes are prone to water spots so I try not to wear when rain is in forecast. There are couple that are not so I wear those when rain is forecast.

You know, I'm not sure why some shell shows water spots and others don't. Those brown HM do not spot at all. Thankfully these burgundy Daltons don't really spot either.

In general, to remove water spots I thoroughly wipe the shoe with a really damp cloth. I then buff with cloth and brush until dry. Sometimes 2 rounds are necessary. If so desired, you can add your fav product at this point. (In most situations, wet brushing is sufficient. If not, Bick 4 works fine for my needs.)

Hello, does anyone know whether or not the Patriot loafer and the Maxfield loafer were made on the same last?
Patriot is the 606 welted last while Maxfield is 114 handsewn last. 114 fits a little shorter.

Your wife shops? Mine shoplifts while I wait in the car.

Now that I have no clearance or employment hinging on being a good boy, let your wife know I'm inbound and ready for free stuff.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
