Thank you Sir! Agreed, nickel would look nice on a black shell cordovan plain toe boot.

That’s a bad boot! I’d prefer the Barrie last though.

I’m not much into fate but I’ve tried to purchase 2 pair of black shell boots this. Dr J from Fransboone and these…..

Both unavailable in my size. Must be the shoe gods way of telling me to cool it…….for now!

CXL is one of those leathers that look really cool on others but just not for me. But these are actually the first CXL's I would consider buying. Very nice.

Guys - without boring you with the details, I have gone from two black shell boots to none. None was never my intention, things just worked out that way and it was a little beyond my control. While previously not a fan, I now love it and would really like to get a pair back in the stable. Thinking of this pair from Mack and was wondering if anyone has any in-the-wild pics. While I like brass and shell, it doesn't really fit my style. Mack does an excellent job of displaying his footwear on his website and I'd really like to see how the brass looks on feet.
I'm a black shell fan and have had Mack's Shogun boot on my list for some time. My first order for that boot got messed up, now waiting on my second order. So will have pics to post one day, just not sure when.
Mack's black shell Venice boot, a medallion boot on plaza with black hardware is also a winner.
That is a beautiful boot. For some reason I could never really wrap my head around black shell cordovan and brass. “Nickel” eyelets always seemed like the logical choice for the hardware colour. I could never own a pair, because it would drive me crazy. Lol! But, it is a damn fine boot.
JSO1 modestly neglects to mention his & Yenni's Olshan boot, a black shell with nickel barrie last tanker that I wear with great pleasure.:thumbs-up:

Indeed he did. Again, as luck would have it, my size is not in stock and I’ve really been trying to avoid preorders. But quite honestly that is the best, by far, that I’ve seen up to this point. Will likely break my self-imposed rule on pre orders. That boot is perfect! I did consider Mack’s Venice boot but I’m heavy on Plaza and while the FB is also Plaza, it’s not quite as dressy. I think the Olshan is the clear winner. Thanks!

Alden seems to be loosening their rules. I, like many, love this combo of Color 8 and Brass

Good to see those on his store, I will have to inquire some about this, to my knowledge, the policy change came relatively shortly after the guy who did the staining retired and was eventually replaced. The new person may have just had to acquire the delicate touch necessary to prevent them from having to hand clean each eyelet, slowing down his throughput. Maybe he has gotten there! Would be really nice if that was the case, as the #8 on Brass can be a lovely combination.

DapperDan, those Indy Boots are looking just superb and I love the flecks in those trousers!

These boomerangs were back in the stable on Thursday and on-feet on Friday. I’ve missed missed them ever since @ironclad (just a great dude to deal with BTW) and I did a swap a year or so ago. Really happy to have them back and they instantly crack the rotation. Dr. J’s from B&M……

Crappy photos may not show it but these puppies glow as much as any 8 I own.

Happy Friday fellow SF brothers…….

Shawn, the Dr. Jones are one of the finest models that Alden makes and I am glad that you got those beauties back! Exceptional looking model and you wear them well!

Some Aldie love.

Pepper, it has been quite a while, but you are looking great in your heavy duty snow shoes and your eloquent Snuff WT Boots! Nice to see you hear and nice to see you still playing!

Savvy, those are just three next level models and three next level pairings! Awesome work man and hope that you and your recent kid are doing well!

Rocking that snow there Au with those killer MCT Boots! A great showing!

Heads up. There is a pair of wingtip boots on leather sole, Barrie last in Country Calf in 9D. $225. Not my boots. Link. I mention them because this leather is no longer available.

Very cool and Tan CC was a really interesting material! I have a pair of LWBs in it.

Monty is very excited at the arrival of the suede PCT boots from Leffot pre-owned…

View attachment 1745078

VG, those are looking great, looks like someone may beat you to the try on!

Ealdwine Davie boots, 35 yr old Carhartt flannel lined work pants, time to go shovel the drive. View attachment 1745088

AuDog, you are looking great in your Chamois and in your well loved Trousers! Hope that you kept warm!!!

Serb, those Plaza WT Boots are looking just superb on you today! Such a lovely and eloquent shoe!

Trying to decide if I keep a pair of Black Shell LWBs. They were a special order — because of my narrow size — and I waited nearly nine months for them. But they’ve been sitting in my closet for a couple months and I still haven’t worn them…

On one hand, I could sell them (although at a loss) and deposit the $ in the Alden shoe fund. Or wear them. Even if I’d likely reach for one of my other pairs most days.

Thoughts on this model? And should I think differently about black shell?

AHS

Black Shell is awesome and really under appreciated. They will pair nice with a slew of different outfits. That said, you gotta wear them, else they are just taking up space.

My Alden collection. Started with the cxl indy then went down the rabbit hole. Think I've finally reached the point where I don't want any more, but can never be sure

View attachment 1745262

t0ronto, a really nicely balanced collection that you have going on there between materials, styles, and shapes. Looking great and hope that you enjoy your collection in good health!

I love the way CxL ages and is not the same from boot to boot. Funny but when shell rolls and gets scuffed, I don't like it, but CXL...bring on that patina...... View attachment 1745309

Looking great Au, yeah, Shell and CXL are different beasts and have their different ways of luring you in. Those look nice with a soft patina forming on them!

Joihnnie, looking great there in your all weather walkers! A classic Alden for sure!

LaRossa milkshake suede Indys on single waterloc today. It's January but many of my shoe brothers have been wearing their milkshake suede shoes lately, so today I decided I'd wear mine, too. View attachment 1745385

Joe, those are just exquisite and glad that you got to pull them out! Funny how we got you to bust them out early! :-D

In my humble opinion, black shell cordovan looks best with black hardware. It’s much sleeker.
View attachment 1745631

TC, killing it in those amazing Black Shell Tankers. Looking great and you are wearing them well!

They are just so classic that I would keep them. Then again I have rarely met an LWB that I did not like.

View attachment 1745639

You and me both Doc! Those are a great sample of the classic Alden LWB! Nicely done there!

Looking great in those lovely boots! I hope that you are enjoying them!!!

More black shell chat: Yenni’s doing the nine eye captoe boots in black (I really like B+M’s makeup in color 8–photo below for reference.) These will be slick and conservative.

@Shawnc Did you sell the Brogue Docker Indy boot on NeoCork??? Say it aint so !

Highly recommend the Black Wick Boot from SOP. That's a helluva boot, and one of my never-sells.

Long story Saz but no, I loved that boot and would never sell. Mack provided what was needed to send them back to Alden to repair the loose hooks but unfortunately Alden said they we're unrepairable and provided a full refund (which I thought was pretty cool). They reached out later and indicated that they could replace the hooks with eyelets but they wanted me to pay full retail, which seemed a bit unreasonable to me so I declined the offer. Probably the first time in all of my dealings with Alden CS that I was disappointed.

Agreed on the SOP offering but I think Yenni's wins by a hair for me.

Ahh, that's super unfortunate. You couldn't have them sent back and have a competent cobbler take care of it? You know Steve at Bedo's would have been able to fix
