I believe they're mocha instead of #8. You may get a VAT deduction on the price, not sure.
Honestly, that wouldn't make a difference for me (per the Ravello comment) and VAT is one thing, but not sure you get relief/refund on duties (I doubt it).

I'm not saying they're not a fantastic shoe btw

$1100 for a pair of #8 PTBs just isn't happening. I wouldn't do that for a Ravello pair (of anything). It's probably a result of the on-going trade scrap, but...

I saw the word “Moka” for the color. Oops, that was already noted.

Should be an interesting week, box from Yenni was delayed by weather and now won't be here until Tuesday because of Postal Holiday tomorrow. Box from Brogue should be here Tuesday as per schedule and a pair of Gustin's en route as well. Should be good times.

Assuming the sender fills out the forms correctly, you shouldn't own any duties on US made goods sent to the US.

Came across this video on reddit. I must admit, I've never laced up this way.

When I bought the first pair of boots with speed hooks in London, the sales found me having trouble with them and taught me this way and ...

“It was basic in Boy Scouts!”
“Sorry I didn’t join Boy Scouts ...”

1100 isn't too crazy if your out the door price is $950+ like I paid at Citishoes for my whiskey boots. Depends whose perspective you are looking at. With ebay/paypal fees, you're actually losing money.

Interestingly, this was touched on in the AE thread last week as well. It's definitely quicker, but some here would probably be troubled by the fact that the top lace at each crossing would flip flop! I'm not generally in enough of a hurry to bother with it, even if I am an Eagle Scout.

I'm sure you're right on resale, but if these are subject to duties (and I'm not 100% sure they are) they'd likely be assessed as they were imported for sale, so would be part of the wholesale cost. I could be wrong...

I do, and it's why I love speed hooks.

Fair, though
(A) my out-the-door price for my Ravello pair was list price ($822) and even with sales tax and shipping (if those had been charged) would be under $900. That's about where I tap out. That's just me, but...
(B) This isn't a business paying tithe to eBay and PayPal (though CC fees apply).

I'm a huge contrarian in spots. While I have zero issues with stockists reserving rare shell for their best customers, having lists or whatever, I do have problems with charging above list (and yeah, I don't like flippers either). If Alden decides to charge a list-price premium for rare shell, I sorta get it, but charging extra seems...wrong. I can't say I have a highly thought-out sensibility on this, but list-price for rare-shell seconds (TSM) and above-list for rare shell firsts is an instant nope from me. I respect the right of anyone to have a different perspective on that topic BTW, and if I abstract my personal peculiarities from the topic I totally see why/how a stockist would charge a bit more for something in high demand they're unlikely to see much of. But without that filter, it bugs me. (If I were a stockist, I'd probably have a hybrid AoDC approach - a list that would start with good and/or "known" customers, and a likely permanent exclusion for a flipper. Prices would be Alden's list price)
