My house was carefully selected for silence on all fronts, privacy, and lack of light sources. I have near perfect silence, near perfect night when we turn our lights out, and near perfect privacy at night.

For anyone who travels a lot on business to city centers, coming home to quiet and a lack of glaring lights is coming home to a bit of heaven.

For anyone who travels a lot on business to city centers, coming home to quiet and a lack of glaring lights is coming home to a bit of heaven.

I couldn't tell you how much time I spend in my study with all but one light off reading a book. After a day full of electronics, conversation and overhead lighting.

City I live in has been under a state of Emergency for a couple days now. 75,000 people evacuated - only 1,500 ended up in emergency shelters, all else found refuge with friends. The City Center lies at the confluence of two major rivers, both of which have spilled their banks and flooding homes.

My house is fine - one of the perks to living on top of a hill - but some of the neighbourhoods effected where at the top of my list for my 'dream' neighbourhood.

Man, I feel for you. I know what it's like to be in a flood. Good that you're not personally affected, stay safe from disease in the days ahead. That's going to be your worst enemy

Bearings on front-load Maytag washer went bad. Replacement took about 5 hours because the whole tub had to come out, meaning basically the whole thing had to come apart. Nonetheless, disassembly was remarkably easy; the thing is very well laid out.

The supposedly nonserviceable bearings came out easily with a hammer and punch. New ones go in, put it back together. Seems to spin fine, but haven't tested it yet -- should probably wait overnight for the locktite and some work I did on the wall behind the washer to dry. Wish me luck...

BTW the bearings thing is apparently a very common problem. The washer was only five years old or so. Maytag supposedly says it costs a grand to fix it.

My nephew lives there. He's sent some scary pics. Seeing the stadium flooded and the zoo submerged was something.
