Our every day stuff came from Bed Bath and Beyond which no longer exists. So much for matching our set!
i have IKEA plates and bowls.

This larger conversation sort of reminds me of all the boomers out there with multiple china sets thinking that one day they will pass it down to their kids. Just like the glut of wine that will start hitting the market when boomers start kicking the bucket in higher numbers, the amount of fine china that will be going to goodwill or sold for pennies on ebay will be massive.

Virtually no one I know has any interest in maintaining multiple sets of china, let alone different holiday themed sets like my in-laws. My parents are still using the two sets of decades old china that they've had since before I was born. My mom always tries to tell us how great they are as if one day one of us kids will wake up and care. I guess objectively the every day set has held up great for a million years and is more special than Corelle but it performs worse on every conceivable metric. Switching to that dishware would be like trying to run a marathon in Edward Greens. They fail at doing the job I actually want my dishes to do.

I've even known multiple couples who GOT DIVORCED before they even opened the china they registered for at their wedding lol.

That tree covered in moss is dope. I'm trying to get moss to set up on some rocks in my yard but it only wants to grow on my patio...
From the land of Bigfoot and banana slugs. I was up in Bend skiing a number of years ago and I commented to my wife on the weirdly large number of trailers I was noticing loaded with furniture. She said " They're probably driving it around trying to dry it out"

the tree is an old flowering dogwood , I think rubra .

agreed the moss is beautiful and it's fun to watch bluebirds steal some for their nests . shingle roofs can turn into mossy works of art around here . would prob make a fun project to try to colonize landscape rocks with moss

When I lived in Portland and didn’t drive for a while my car’s tires turned green from algae.

I ordered all our dishes from Sysco's "Supplies on the Fly" website. I just checked Amazon and they're on there too. World Tableware, the Slate line up. If you don't mind all white, which I prefer, lots of different sizes and shapes. Pricing is good and they are solid as a rock.

This is the way.

We have a pseudo fancy set for 24 we use maybe 6 times a year and each time I wonder why we didn't just use the restaurant supply stuff in white that I ordered by the case when we first got a house.

I also prefer white dishes but round.

So, we ended up going with the Kitchen Aid dishwasher anyway. The one we have is sixteen years old, and we decided the Bosch name maybe wasn’t worth the $500 extra.

We’re also getting an induction cooktop. With all the discounts, the total savings in something like $1200 off retail.

Anyone have experience hardwiring a cooktop or capping a gas line?

Sure, I would put a cap on the gas line with a cap top that goes on top of the gas line. I would then wire stuff to the house electrical wires. Boom, done.

And then check for leaks with a match?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
