The new holiday make-ups look good. I love Old, English, Chesterfield couches and the red and green remind me of them.

Couple recent wears.

I really like the look of the new holiday strands. These would be a novelty buy for me so I may wait until they go on clearance or see if the shoe banks gets any seconds.

Looks may be deceiving.
  • Ultra-refined, premium calfskin leather uppers
I don’t think you can say Ultra-refined with premium in the same sentence. Maybe then can, isn’t premium leather synonymous with corrected grain?

Just know what you are getting.

The description suggests that this has a leather sole, but the photos suggest otherwise. Any idea which is correct?

Everything in that holiday collection that isn't patent black for tux use is awful. Yea it looks like corrected grain. Didn't they do some of these things in the past? These are an L for sure. Jingles were all wins, these are not it.

Reverse kudu HMs in snuff. I miss the good ole GMTO days.

Agree those were good times (I still enjoy my reverse suede HMs) but I'm happy the current AE custom shop offers far more flexibility than any single group MTO configuration option.

My latest custom project just arrived sporting some overall packaging improvement. First, this is my first encounter with the new boxes with printed white logotype and new label design (more readable if storing in the box, and nice to see customization acknowledged with more than an ABCDOT):

Further acknowledgement when I first opened the box:

In a welcome return of old school packaging, the shoes are once again wrapped in separate cloth shoe bags — someone must have finally remembered that when packing shoes for travel two freely placeable bags are better than stitching them together in a single bag with two pockets. Also, each bag as a removable inner semi-transparent dust jacket - very handy for shelf storage that lets you ID the contents.

Oh right, there were also some shoes included:

Suede Strand spectators with brown welt. Flat navy laces are an option I've never seen from AE:

And single JR soles to complete my design choices:

As with my previous custom orders, I'm very happy with the final result in their first foray in the wild:

Granted these are a specialized item, requiring careful pairing of accessories

I'm really having so much fun with customs that I've pretty much lost interest in off-the-shelf styles. And the longer make-up times have helped me pace myself with more selective ordering than my usual weasel-induced binge frenzies, which has actually been wallet-friendly despite the higher per-order cost.

Lil' Donkey's college band is performing tonight in WI, so Mrs. Donkey and I are heading up to see it and then hitting the bars afterward. Waxed suede Higgins Mill should work with any spillage that occurs.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
