Well, it will effect the desuperheater the same way it would affect affect anything else it runs through....scaling buildup over time, which will indeed affect its performance, and would require maintenance depending on how bad it gets. It depends on just how hard your water is, and what its components are (calcium is the main culprit).
If it's that bad, then some sort of softener for your domestic water is probably something you would want to consider. Overly hard water is a ***** to live with.
