I am off to Italy shortly and require some swimming trunks. Some nice ones. Because Italy.

I have bought some intimissimi online and they are perfectly pleasant but quite low rise. I am in good shape, but in my fifties, so sexy isn’t an appropriate look.

Last season I tried on some Orlebar Brown and was not blown away. They did nothing for me and I have bought cheaper cars! I ended up buying some from White Stuff in desperation, which looked like Dadwear immediately and have not improved with washing.

Can anyone suggest where to look in the uk please for something good quality that is age appropriate?

TIA

I like to wear Parke and Ronen. Kind of pricey and you need to be in pretty good shape to wear but they look great.

Yep they look good thank you. Have you any experience of them? I ask because the Sunspel polo shirts I had were rubbish. They shrank in length massively.

I noticed that too. I ran them through my washer and dryer and they shrank quite a bit. Now I just wash and hang dry.

I threw mine away when they became so short they made me look like Madonna circa 1984.

Edited to add - mine were washed at 30 degrees and air dried. It's very frustrating to pay premium and receive something that performs less well than Uniqlo.

If you’re not familiar with the genius that is Sterling Malory Archer then all I can say is that you’re in for a treat!
No doubt! Does he have a natty line in swim shorts?

So, can anyone vouch for Sunspel swimmers please? If not, I may just order up a single pair so see how they are.

Re: Sunspel, yes, I own a pair, which is why I was comfortable making the recommendation.
  • Easy to find in the UK.
  • Expensive, but less so than Orlebar Brown.
  • Classic, flattering cut, at least on me. I'm mid 40's.
  • 6.5 inch inseam. Short, but not too short.
  • Functional. Zippered pocket, side pockets, side-snaps.
  • Can't say anything about long term durability. Brought them with me on a week long family vacation last year. Expected to wear them primarily at the pool / lake, but since they're comfortable and look like shorts from a distance, I ended up wearing them for most of the trip. They've been in a drawer since that trip. They seem durable (for swimwear, at least), but can't say that with any real certainty.
