I'm really liking these.

The Split toe and I really like the sole treatment on these. Hard to tell but is the heal similar to the toe? Is that a rubber toppy and a toe plate???

Can anybody tell me what are the basic characteristics of the Classic vs the Riva and anything with regards to fit of these two Lasts?

Something happened with that picture. It's only a row of brads. @GabrielOB can provide feedback regarding Riva, I've actually only been fitted for Classic yet.

Classic, Riva and Chiseled should be more or less the same fit, the main difference being the shape of the toe boxes.

@TtownMD you really went for it! Is that a pair of navy 108s in your first order? Impressive. In all honesty I wanted to do the same but was talked into purchasing more staples first. I'm still plotting my 108 order. Is that midnight or regular navy blue?

Your loafer also looks excellent. I've been wearing my suede (BCK) loafers (with metal toe plates) fairly heavily over the last 3 months. Not much stretching but I share your fear of loose loafers.

I've been fitted by a store and Philip and I have metal toe taps in all of my pairs and they tend to serve their purpose quite well. But I understand they're not for everyone.

I am quite surprised at how worn that toe plate gets.

Only thing I don't like about the toe tap is the annoying noise it makes
I'm worried about that, myself. Some people like it and some hate it. Not sure which camp I'm in cause I've never had them...

I notice no noise at all from my metal toe taps when walkig on pavement / cement and only very slight noise when walking on tile / marble. You roll off the toe as you walk (unless you have a very unusual gait) so you don't get the sound that initial full-weight impact would bring - like you get with metal heel taps - which are freaking L-O-U-D. Not to mention dangerous.

So just to be clear for a loafer if I wear a 11 1/2 US am I best to go with a 10 UK which is 1 and 1/2 size down or a 11 UK which is only a 1/2 size down? I actually wear a 10 1/2 UK on the Sailor Last.

By the way thanks for the reference on both of these Last. I remember seeing something like this awhile back but for the life of me I couldn't remember where.

I'm not sure downsizing 1.5 is a good idea at this price point. If you usually wear 10.5 UK on the Sailor, a .5
drop to 10.0 should work. Pretty sure you're already doing it, but consider your US width in this equation.

I drop 1/2 because of loafer heel slip especially on the right foot. You could hit Phillip C up for some sizing
help if you're stuck but I think you'll be good with half size difference.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
