Btw, when will the Spring collection be previewed?

I think we’re all dying to see the new cotton sprtscoats.

Maybe just me but I'm dying to get the shirts with multiple sleeves first. Hopefully, 33 will work, was hoping 32 is coming along but looks like it's not anymore.

I think if you're going to go with closed quarters, the jacket needs to be shorter than the 'traditional' length. If going with wide open quarters, then you need a longer jacket length, shorter tie, and long rise trousers. All to preserve a balanced look. However, this isn't exactly what is currently in fashion, and isn't that easy to find IMO.

Even in the open quarter picture, the guy's tie looks too long for his overall look, and the rise may be too low as well.

Ethan Wong demonstrates what I'm talking about quite well.

This looks pretty awful imho. If it didn't have his name attached to it (and presumably his reputation), I'm sure it wouldn't get the apparent favourable response it's getting.

I disagree 100%. That was also the weakest example singled out in the response..

I don't know how to embed instagram on here, so I'll just screenshot better examples. It looks much better with a long rise and a shorter tie if you're going to wear wide open quarter jackets. It all cinches together in one focal point by the top button, and these pictures speak for themselves.

To contrast, there are a LOT of pictures ITT that involve divoted shoulders, and belts and ties peeping out underneath the quarters, and trouser rises that are too low and people complimenting each other on "good fit".

It doesn't create a cohesive silhouette, which is exactly the point of my post.

None of those pictures changed my mind, in fact they’ve just strongly reinforced how I feel about the look. But I won’t go on about it as it’s not the thread for that.

Suffice it to say I’m sure S&M could reproduce that style, but I think it would be a waste of good money for anyone to emulate it.

The pictures above show rather extreme examples since the guy pictured dresses somewhat on the costumey side of things (and he admits to that). For a better comparison, check out this link, you'll notice that the difference between closed and open isn't as dramatic and open quarters does not equal the extreme flare as shown above.

The guy in the pics above wears vintage suits and is into the 30's, 40's, 50's styling so I wouldn't use that as a model example. He makes it work for himself, but that doesn't mean that others would want to emulate that.

and every single photo is him with his hands behind his back, which dramatically emphasizes it.

Thanks for the helpful discussion and illustrations of open and closed quarters. As a result, I'm not sure that open Q look is for me, which is good to know.

I am having some difficulty with my order I placed for Cyber Monday.
After about a week, I received an email that one of the items I ordered was out of stock. I called the number provided since I had a sizing question that I wanted to discuss. We worked that out on the phone. The next day, I looked at my online order status and it looked like the entire order was canceled.
I received another email (and missed a phone call) on Friday informing me that the order was about to be shipped but one of the items was out of stock. It’s like our earlier conversation never happened.
This time I reviewed the website to see what other items I might order instead. I returned the phone call and was told to just reply to the email that I received. So I did that. I have not received any response.
This was my first attempt at ordering from Spier & Mackay. Is this normal? Can anyone help?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
