Thanks. I think the back length does cover all my seat. I'm more concerned about the front length. It might give that impression however based on lighting and the loose regular rise cream trousers I was on.
Here are some photos with the better lighting + better fitting high rise trousers. Would you still give the same verdict?

I think the jacket fits you well and I'd keep it if it were me. There are tweaks you can make but, as OTR, it fits great.

Not a definitive assessment, but, in giving another SM linen shirt its first wear, I feel quite confident saying their linen shirtings from S/S are demonstrably smaller than previous years.

If I'm not mistaken, I do believe there was some agitating here (maybe 2 years back or so) about linen shirtings being dramatically oversized compared to cotton?

Entirely speculative, but curious if SM recalibrated anything to account for it, or if this is a wonky one off for the season's batch.

Really hoping the latter, because these suckers are slimmer by a decent amount than the extra slim I had from however many years ago.

Since this linen shirt is on final sale at $40 CAD it's a steal. I'm wondering the same though, as I have the previous version and it fit like a damn tent. Should I risk it? I have a destination wedding to attend next June

Can't hurt at those prices. I picked up few contemporary giro iglese shirts, so we'll see if my supposition was accurate.

Given my experience (certainly not the gospel, by any means), I'd feel comfortable gambling on them being slimmer.

I grabbed a couple of these too. Have not bought them before, but seems like a very practical and beautiful fabric.

M&E discontinued it's cut length business. But Dugdale has picked it up and selling it through their own line. However the price has shot up dramatically. M&E reps have stated the price had more than doubled. Spier will buy their own curated rolls for RTW and MTO which they still can do, according to Rick.
Sorry to only jump on this message now, but could you elaborate on Marling & Evans discontinuing their cut length business?

I just commissioned something in a 370 GSM undyed (I think shetland?) tweed of theirs, and wanted to find out more about its quality and how it compares to other mills. I heard rumors of it being discontinued, but it's unclear to me if my tailor made a mistake in assuming the fabric is still available or if they still happen to have a cut length lying around. Otherwise I'll go look for an alternative fabric :)

The fabrics are still available. They just don't offer cut lengths anymore. Dugdale has picked up that business and offers it to customers at an increased price. Unless, of course, as you stated, your tailor had a roll or piece laying around since before.

Gotcha, thank you for your swift reply! I can't find a lot of their stuff on Dugdale's website though. Am I to understand that you'd ask M&E or Dugdales about a specific fabric that you would have seen somewhere else?

Not sure how that works. My guess is that you can go through ME and they'll let you know how to proceed.

Many thanks for explaining!
I read your post discussing fabric quality, would you care to offer your opinion on (shetland) tweeds?

Sorry to ask this again, but anyone have experience with the paper chinos? If so can you describe the fabric feel and weight, and if it seems quality enough to last a while? I know the garment dyed chinos had less than favorable reviews.

Ime, generally speaking, Shetland tweeds fall in the mid spectrum between Harris Tweed and Merino Tweed. Merino is usually denser, softer and less spongy than Shetland. The wool of Merino is finer and more polished. Not as rough as Shetland. Harris even more so. Harris is thick, coarse and hairy. Then you have Fox Tweed. Which falls somewhere between Moon and Harris in terms of coarseness.

It all depends on what you're looking for. If you want that ivy or country look, Harris Tweed is it. If you're looking for something similar to Harris visually but a little more refined which isn't as spongy and hairy, Shetland Tweed is your source. If you're looking for a refined piece or maybe something that you would be able to make a suit out of that would hold a crease well, opt for Merino Tweed.
