Tell me I'm overthinking this and to just make my order.

I usually buy size 38 contemp trousers and sometimes take the waist in to a 37 (have been carrying a few extra pounds lately and for the ones I use with suspenders I haven't bothered to get the waist taken in lately). I'll add that I often wish that Spier trousers had a smidge more room in the thighs/knees because I like the room to move in them.

I'd like to get a couple trousers on sale but they're only available in size 40. I think these should be easy to tailor down to 38 in the waist and perhaps even down to 37 when I get back to the weight I normally am, plus they'll be a slighter higher rise (good) and more roomy. Am I right thinking this?

3 inches is a lot in the waist. You can end up really throwing the balance off and bring pockets too close together, etc.

Lol. FWIW, I've had SCs from other affiliate vendors twice the price that aren't on specs either. 0,25-0,3" is within acceptable margin of error IMO. I believe it's standard procedure to operate within that margin of error for handmade garments
I agree, at least in regards to length. I know it happens, but that difference in shoulder sizing can make an impact impossible to overcome, sadly...caught me with my last two purchases.

Agreed that shoulder width is more difficult, albeit one should account for +/-0,25" for every measurement. When I place MTO orders I always add an extra 0,25" and also ask them to err on the larger/+ side.

I’m looking to buy this navy serge blazer in 42R or 44R.

Anyone willing to sell theirs?

Does anybody who is active here own this beauty? I would be curious about its suitability for 3-season wear. Also, looks like my size is the very last one in stock, so I should make my mind up before someone steals it from my cart...This is the Fatigue Green Linen, btw. From the batch code, it is from S/S 2022.

Anyone here disappointed by S&M's casual trouser fits? I wish they would have a taper - and I'm not sure it's worth asking a tailor to do so. Unfortunately it seems all alternative brands insert stretch material in their pants. Infuriating.

Does SM run any regular sales? I just realized the camel Ulster I've been eyeing is probably from last year's stock, and isn't likely to come back in my size. They're overcoat is not all that different though, it's just full price rather than on sale. Curious if buying it at full price is a good idea or if I should be waiting for some sort of sale others already know about.

Frequent sales but hot desired pieces and snatched right away. If you really want a certain piece, I would go for it. I wanted the balmacaan coat from last year, I missed out and now 😞 … 😅

They do have sales on holidays (Black Friday is coming) and at other times as well (such as end of season sales). However, their stock are not huge and more popular items will often sell out at regular price.

Finale note: the website advertises when only 3 items or less are left in your desired size and cut.

Surprised the shetland sweaters aren’t moving quicker. Better for me.

For folks who bought ‘em last year, did you go with your usual sweater size? Debating whether I should stick with my usual S or go down.

For reference, I’ve usually gone with an S in their merino wool v-necks and cardigans.

I believe I went with my thicker merino sweater size of XS compared to the usual S of the thinner merino sweaters

Relaxed fit chinos are in! Thought I'd give some comparison pics and measurements. Olive are relaxed fit size 34, khaki are contemporary size 34 from 21 or 22, can't remember. Obviously the olive are still unfinished.

Rise: 11" ( contemporary are 10.5)
Waist: 17"
Thigh: 11"
Opening: 8.5"

These might be too baggy for me. Going to wear them around the house for a day and consider though.
