Can you feel they made it with the new armholes ? The breast pocket still looks high.
Nice jacket and fit anyway !
Hmmm I hadn’t paid attention to the pocket. You’re right it is higher. Godammit lol. Oh well, it’s still very nice and I personally haven’t noticed the armholes so perhaps they just changed that and didn’t keep the breast pocket as the previous versions.. live and learn

Ah, sorry I made you notice it, I hope I didnt ruin your experience...

They currently have a great fabric selection and I actually like the +2 cm in the armholes but the pocket position is just not good for my liking. Ended up selling the first (and last) FW21 jacket I bought here...

My other two MTO’s were delivered today, but unfortunately I’m in California until Thursday.
Really hoping they both turn out just as good as the one I received last week. Glad to hear everyone else’s orders are coming back with no issues.

Well, it's here and we have tried it on. It's just about perfect.

The sleeves are made to the requested length, but they are still a touch long @ 26.25". I tried to guess the correct length to request based upon the 46 s/c, but the 47 shoulders require an even shorter sleeve measurement (maybe 1/4-1/2".)

The jacket is comfortable without the canvas and drapes well. It is probably less snug than most would like such a s/c, but it's what I wanted it to be. The details of the lighter buttons, triple patch, 1/4" pick, etc. all work with the non-canvas to present a sporty and relaxed look and feel.

The longer body adjustment is dead on. The front quarters and rear vents are presenting better. I am very happy with the s/c.

We will try to post some pictures later in the week.

What are the potential customs/duties payable on orders to the UK? Are there also potential customs/duties payable on returns to Canada? I’m very tempted to buy some sports jackets but I’m wary of added costs changing the price significantly, particularly given that there might be returns as I figure out my size.

For a first real blazer to wear mainly business casual, which of the two below would you prefer? They are hopsack which I wanted. Look basically the same other than the patch breast pocket it seems, but maybe others hear have an opinon.

Patch breast is more casual. You can dress the other one up more.

Do you mean blazer in classic terms? Like a true blazer or do you mean an odd jacket/sport coat?

Looking quickly, I can identify four differences:
- The one with a patch breast pocket features fabric from Dino Filarte. The other one is from VBC. Imo, the latter generally looks better and is more durable. The former is more flimsy.

- The VBC jacket is heavier: 330gsm vs 265gsm. Depending on where you live, you might prefer one over the other. If you want a year round jacket (which neither is), I'd prefer the heavier one because of drape. I think the VBC drapes better.

- The VBC looks darker, which in my book is better in terms of versatility.

- A patch breast pocket almost always requires a pocket square. Imo, it looks naked without one, while a standard breast pocket won't look weird without a PS.

Add about 35% to your invoice value once converted to GBP and you'll be close. Spier will credit 50% of duties as store credit though, upon production of a valid customs payment receipt.

If you buy with PayPal you can use their return shipping option which covers you up to £15 GBP in return shipping costs, however returns from the UK to Canada are not cheap.

What size do you normally take? I'm in the UK and may be able to sell you a few bits to help nail down your size.

Unfortunately, I pinched my shoulders in trying to hold the camera up and off to the side, but you will get the idea. It's super comfortable. I like everything with a 'relaxed' fit. This is about as dressy as we get around here.

This.
What other company would do such a thing for its customers?

Anyone that has the linen sportshirts, can you tell me how much I have to worry about shrinkage? And is it easy to shorten the sleeves? Or, conversely, I'm a 17/33 in Brooks Brothers shirts... should I just order custom shirts in the correct size and not worry about having to fuss with the sleeve length?

On a separate note, I live in hot and humid New Orleans. I'd like to pick up another sport coat for the summertime but am curious what people think would be best for this environment... a pure linen like the Baird McNutt PoW, or one of the open weave Bottoli's like the blue mix or brown hopsack, or would something completely unstructured like the VBC mesh be a better choice even though it has a higher percentage wool in the fabric? For context, I'm a musician and although most clubs I play in at night are air conditioned, they often have the doors open to entice people in (and the bandstand is often by the door), so it can still be a bit warm.

I'm curious for anyone else who lives in a similar environment to chime in, like ericgereghty or DapperPhilly.

Nice jacket and fit anyway !

sorry, i try to keep up with this thread but can you explain the above comment?…

I never heard anything about the breast pocket being moved, but looking closer at the latest jackets on the s$m website, they all look too high - both neo and std SC cut appear high to me. Was the breast pocket moved up in conjunction with raised armhole? Or was the pocket placement just raised independently of the armholes?

I placed a custom SC order about 5 days ago…not liking this higher breast pocket, so I just shot an email to CS asking for the older breast pocket height (if it’s not too late). I’m wondering if by asking for the lower pocket, it means I’ll also get lower armholes (which I wouldn’t mind)…like maybe they have the armhole and breast pocket heights locked together as a symmetry thing?

if it makes a difference, my custom SC on order uses the non-neo, standard SC block. I thought I’d previously read that the raised armholes are only on the Neo cut, but now I’m questioning that too (?).

TIA to all who stay on top of this stuff!

Visible Pick Stitching on Lapels and Pockets

  • It’s a mark of quality and craftsmanship

  • I like it when it’s subtle

  • I don’t like visible stitching

  • Doesn’t matter to me
