Has anyone used HMS' or VBC's herringbone fabrics currently offered in the MTO section for suits? Considering having a herringbone suit made, but not sure about the difference between the HMS and VBC offers besides the weight. Another thing making me reluctant is the scale of the pattern. Its not obvious from the pics.

The HMS charcoal (last pic) features the same details as the HMS navy fabric.

Leaning towards the HMS fabric since it's heavier and I don't intend on using it during summer.

My experience is that HMS is rougher than VBC. So a matter of your preference.

Rick is now claiming that the chalk striped VBC fabrics are semi carded, which means they're hybrids between woolen and worsted. Don't know what that means as I've never tried something like it. But thought I'd share it since I was told they're woolen before.

Perfectly suitable for suiting. Just the hand feels rougher to me with the HMS vs VBC. Not surprising as HMS sources from India and China as well thus reflected in their lower price and most likely lower tier than VBC. Personally I wouldn't go with anything lower than Drago + VBC for MTO that I may keep longer than rtws.

Rather than focusing on budget I think it's time SM offers VBC's more technical fabrics like the machine washable wrinkle resistant line which would be ideal for all their unstructured jackets / suits:
