Weather was a little cool this morning in LA. Broke out the Neo dark brown hopsack from the FW ‘21 season. Also pictured are the cream cords from FW ‘20, and the light wash Italian collar denim shirt from this past Spring. Providing some in-motion quick and dirties.

So earlier a colleague was asking where I shop for menswear. I obviously referred them to Spier. But looking at the website I realized something that I knew but hadn’t really acknowledged before- it’s been a while since we’ve seen a new OTR/RTW suit from S&M. The full canvas POW is coming but that seems to be it? Anyone else notice that? Everything suiting seems to be coming as MTO.

Covid-19, people working from home, movement to casual/athleisure clothing purchases. I'm glad S&M is limiting their suiting options and trying to stay afloat during this time. There's plenty of suiting separates and there's a handful of regular suits that were released this season. They just didn't get hyped here because well, they're basic fabrics.

Also, most Sportscoats being released are only Neo Cut. This is mainly for the same above, where only the menswear enthusiast are buying them due to everything becoming so casual now. I think you will see S&M go more into casual clothing soon, while keeping the SCs and Suits limited, but still close to 50% of new releases.

I wonder if the italian style DB will ever be updated, because it just doesn't look right.

All I see is the high button stance and flared skirt, and too much waist suppression. Combine this bottom heavy look and trendy sky-high peak gorge, and it looks like a mess.

I'm not sure I understand where you're coming from on this critique. You feel like it's a trendy take on the db?

+100. If I were to get this I may have to shorten the jacket to somewhat reduce the apparent skirt turning it into a very casual jacket. But there's no remedy for the high peak. I've gotten rid of all my peak lapel jackets that have the lapels pointing beyond my shoulders. I'm actually looking for a new db that's unstructured and short enough to be worn unbuttoned all the time.

I Would Love Too See This (IRL) Isn't It Pinned In The Back, Causing This Waist Suppression For This Photo Shot, I Like The (4.25) Lapels, But You Know I'm A Lil On The Wild Side! :fistbump:

I've been buying nothing but very light jackets with shirtlike single button on sleeves and stretch fabric casual suits with elastic waist. I got enough formal business suits that will last me literally a lifetime or two. So yea I understand their move towards casual pieces.

More than 10, certainly under 20 pieces. Right now probably only 5.

I'd love to see more closer to overshirt-like unstructured sportjackets from SM. I think that's the only thing that'll keep it relevant otherwise people are moving to casual ones like chore, field, etc.

The movement towards casual wear in the workplace has been going on for quite some time. The pandemic WFH environment sort of exacerbated it. But I don’t think the trend will continue indefinitly. We’re likely to see a swing back towards classic menswear in the future. This is also a highly industry specific characteristic. Silicon valley will stay casual for the foreseeable future. Whereas NYC IBs and law firms will remain fairly formal.

Im with you! It's pinned for effect and the lapels arent as dramatic in person, imo
I haven’t seen it in person but I agree with @Riva that the body seems a touch long, at least in the photo. Even 1/2” shorter would make it look less bottom heavy.
