Should I be concerned about these toecaps?

Just got a pair of Edward Green Southwold's in the mail from Sky Valet.

However, upon closer inspection of the toe caps, I'm noticing something (hairline cracking?) -- does that seem to be cause for concern?

If it's normal, I'm fine with it, but if the shoes are damaged, I want to make sure to rectify the situation. I just don't want to be concerned over nothing.

None of my EG cap-toes or wingtips have creased in that way across that part of the toe.

Clean it and get rid of the old wax, and use leather conditioner. They will be great.

I agree!

The shoes might have been in their box for quite a while and some of the waxes have worked their way to the surface.

P.S. Give the shoes a really good brush, that might solve the problem already.

Strange to see on a completely new pair of shoes, but I've had nothing but good experience with Edward Green leathers.

As a side note though, haven't there been some other threads about micro cracking leather on C&J handgrades and even a few edward green shoes? There was a lot of debate about what to do, but I recall some people saying that they while it wasn't a widespread problem, they had randomly gotten micro cracking on their C&J handgrades and Edward Green shoes.

EDIT: Here's one of the threads. concerns C&J more than EG but a few people mention EG later in the thread: http://www.styleforum.net/forum/thr...ones-handgrade-dry-leather-faulty-or-not-help

Thanks for the replies. I'll try to remove the wax (looking how to do that now - suggestions are welcome), apply some Renovateur, give a good brushing, and post pics of the results once I do.

While they certainly shouldn't have come to you this way in the box it is likely due to storage. AS others have said, apply a good conditioner and brush them well. Try to warm them with the brushing or a rag which should soften the wax instead of trying to remove it.

Applied the slightest bit of Renovateur and gave a thorough brushing, the wingtip looks completely new!
Thank you so much for the advice -- I was a more than a little worried!

Pardon the lighting difference -- I shot these in the late evening, while the originals were shot in the natural light of the afternoon.
