I'm the opposite, I feel (psychologically) uncomfortable if my inseam is .5" past no-break and I'll lose sleep over it.

When that happens do you find you self consciously hike up your pants to mooseknucklehood?

This is half the reason I started hemming my own pants: I was tired of having to argue with tailors about getting no-break. (The other reason is that after having done one myself I realised that even my amateur stitches are less noticeable than most of the tailors in town.) I'm still experimenting with which pants I want at which lengths.

Gah! I just got back a pair of pants from the tailor today. She got the "no break" part right but she put in 1.5" cuffs instead of the 2" ones I asked for.

I had a very minimal break and 2 inch cuffs done on slim-fitting pants I recently bought. The outcome was good and I really like the look better than I thought I would.

I wear pants with little to no break. Go with what others have suggested but there are a few other options: 1. Wear socks that match your pants 2. Wear quality dress boots; slim pants with no break + boots = people think you're fashion God.

If there is 1 1/2" outlet of cloth at the hem she can still make 2" cuffs. If there is less, she can make a false cuff.

To the OP: I had the exact conversion you describe. I started out liking a full, American break. Then I moved to a very short English break. Now I prefer an Italian no-break.

The key to not worrying about your socks showing is always to wear nice socks.

I too have seen many older American business men wear their trousers with way too much break to the point that it bunches up at the shoe...looks like some kid on the street with baggy pants....I prefer a medium break, very clean all around, from full cut hickey freeman suit trousers to slim fitting Zanella Benny flat fronts...
