Nothing major, but probably the best shoes $200 can buy. Meermin classic line...been reading about some QC issues, not the case here.

Look great. Let us know how they hold up after multiple wears. I haven't taken the Meermin plunge yet.

don't worry be happy

My question probably came across more flip than I intended. I am actually curious why the dark and light contrast is preferred in one instance, but not the other by some people. I personally like the dark pant with lighter shoe contrast.

Uncle,

After you comment on my shoes being too light colored for my suit, you flip the script and wear a very dark loafer with a light tan pant? What is your rationale?

nephew,
you know the saying-do as I say and not what I do
a suit requires a darker color shoe whereas in a business casual environment you have more flexible in the color of shoes

Europrep,

I would guess it might have to do with the usual formality of darker trousers, in comparison to the more casual nature of lighter colored shoes being worn.

Plenty of people subscribe to the color contrast idea between pants and shoes, the shoes being the darker of the two. Maybe that might be another reason.

I personally subscribe to the above idea, but mainly for artistic reasons. The darker color pants/lighter colored shoes combo always looks top heavy to me (again from an art concept point of view). A darker base always looks more aestheticly pleasing to me, as it gives the outfit a more solid/weighted look.

On another note, it makes you wonder if people have personal reasons for their aesthetic choices, or if it's more due to what people refer to as groupthink?

I would say over half the guys I see on the street in suits wear shoes that are too light for their trousers. It seems a lot of people buy things in a bubble and think it all goes together because they are wearing a "suit" and "dress shoes". That's not the case. Just because a shoe looks appealing on the wall in the store, or in a marketing photograph doesn't mean it works across the board. When I see those light colored AE's with navy and charcoal, which is in NYC way too often, I can't help but shake my head at the notion they think it looks good.

Maybe it's me but I cannot pair shoes / boots any lighter than say EG burnt pine or G&G pine.

I can't abide light coloured dress shoes but that probably says more about me and my refusal to experiment...

Although I tend to follow the style guidelines, I like tan shoes and wear them even with darker suits. However, I more often I do reach for shoes in a darker shade. In my line of work, clothing/style/color combinations are really not that important (except maybe with a handful of patient that I see). Be aware of the guidelines and deviate as long as you're comfortable.

Next time I see someone shake their head next time I'm wearing my whiskey DM and a dark suit, I'll know if you pB (especially if the person is wearing black shoes)! :nodding:
