This thread was started as a result of a group of us who got together in Oakland on Thursday, Dec-28th. We met at Standard & Strange and went to get drinks and food at Drake's Dealership. It was a lot of fun. Hopefully, we can do more of these and more folks can join in.

It was fascinating that even though our tastes are very different, we run into similar problems with "civilians". Lots of discussion about how we try to avoid revealing where we get our clothes and what we paid for them. Not to mention that our partners do a lot of eye-rolling. :D

Looks like a revival of the SF Meet-ups which ended Fall of 2016.
At the time they were organized by Gus, who subsequently decamped to Santa
Fe ,NM. I would be interested if the Meet-ups were in SF. Oakland is "a bridge
too far".

I exchanged email with Antonio Pastena of Sartoria Pastena. He is reasonably well known on this site - here is a thread dedicated to him. There are also references to him in the Ongoing Bespoke Projects thread.

I have heard that his prices are reasonable and his quality pretty high.

He is on tour in the US right now, and he is coming back in April.

If he can get five or more appointments, he is willing to come to the Bay Area in April. I very much appreciate his willingness to consider this.

If you live in the Bay Area and are interested in an appointment with him, can you please reply to this post, so that I can tally easily? Feel free to respond, even if you don't live here, but are willing to travel here for an appointment.

If there are more than 5 commitments, I'll ask him how he wants to organize things.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I'll cross-post in a couple of other threads.

It's been so quiet here.

Does anyone know of any tailors in the South Bay that will chainstitch hems on jeans? I know I can go to Self Edge in San Francisco, but it's a hike and I know I won't get to it for a while.

I really don't trust my jeans to anyone except my alterations place down here in los gatos. But I have had it done on a least five pairs at self edge and it is flawless.

What is the point/benefit of chain stitching. I just dropped off
a new pair at Tailor Maid in Palo Alto to hem. I am not a denim
adept. I just get those which fit and have no or minimum stretch.

Not a true a denim head. I'm just getting into it.

With that caveat, the point of chainstitching is that it's the traditional stitch style on old denim. Hemming it with a non-chainstitch creates an inconsistent stitch style on the garment.
