Yeah I had seen that but then further down is this picture:

So I just wasn’t sure if the hands were actually in a pocket or in the channel.

Thanks for all the responses - glad that I was mistaken and that there are in fact pockets as well. Now to decide between the balmacaan or the uster…

I'll work on the description of the pockets to see if I can clarify how they work!

Get both?
Having both, the Ulster is much heavier and warmer thus it would protect you against the cold. If you live in a warm country, the balmacaan will do you well. You cannot go wrong either way.

They are both big coats, but the Ulster is the longer of the two, and being double-breasted is more weighty and warm.

When I pack a balmacaan in a box it nearly fills the box. Not many coats we've made over the years do that. But when I pack the Ulster, if causes the box to bulge at the seams.

I perceive the balmacaan as more neutral, more versatile — in terms of outfits, occasions, and times of year — and more casual, which the Ulster is more of a statement.

What’s the consensus on peacoat vs Ulster in terms of warmth and wind resistance? Regrettably, I live a cold and windy place with temps not infrequently -10C plus the wind for that extra bite!

The Ulster covers much more of the body so is easily and inherently the most warmth-trapping and wind-resisting of the two.
