Removing tassels from loafers?

Is there any way I -- or a paid expert -- could remove the tassels from loafers and replace them with something else, or just remove them but in a manner that did not leave the lace cut and exposed? I got a nice pair of Polo loafers at basically a thrift store price, but I'm not sure I'm a fan of tassels. I'd like to have something "smoother." Thanks.

I'm not sure it can be done successfully. Years ago my dog chewed off a tassel on one shoe so I removed the tassel on the other. My attempt at trying to wear the shoes without the tassels didn't work well. Maybe it was the type of shoes, but it was obvious that something was not quite right with the shoes.

I never thought I'd wear tassel loafers, but I bought a pair the other day and they're actually growing on me:

My advice - wear them "as is" a few times, before deciding whether to operate on them.

IMO, it depends on the construction/fixation of the tassels.

I have a tassel similar to the Belgian shoes, where I could remove it and bring it on to my liking.

When I looked at my Sebago Weejuns, it was not possible to remove them, w/o leaving a damage or at least as Jay Jay said:"...it was obvious that something was not quite right with the shoes.

I had exactly the same problem a few months back. I got a local shoemender to remove the tassels, and cover the holes with a matching leather "saddle" (or whatever you call that piece of the shoe.)

It was a reasonable solution, but not perfect.

Love tassel loafers - especially in dark brown and snuff suede with cord and flannel pants. Classics. Just wear them and buy a proper pair of tassel-free loafers if you want to.
