I'll never understand the economy of this place. Houses are pricey and ugly. Everything is expensive (yes, I know because island). The food is worse than expected (besides yogurt and lamb). UV rays are off the chart. Weather sucks. Every time I leave the Bay Area I'm reminded of why it's awesome.

Where in NZ are you at @cyc wid it loved NZ when I visited as a kid but that's 20 years ago now. Even back then things were expensive

It's based on police riot gear, and made out of a material (then) newly developed for the military that's supposedly fire and knife proof. Think I read there's one in the V&A.

Who makes thinner socks than what you buy at Uniqlo? To be worn with loafers. Over the calf is fine too but I am looking for really thin socks since the loafer already fits quite snug.

It's freezing, I'm not gonna surf here if I don't surf in NorCal with a wetsuit.

NZ food is really expensive and I tend to find it heavy. I'm probably just spoiled by the Bay Area.

Dapper Classics' over-the-calf cotton socks are the thinnest I own. Thinner than my wool dress socks and nicely breathable for hot days.

Bay Area is awesome indeed. It's like a prison for douches, only the douches don't realize they're in prison, and in fact really like their prison. So, like, the "how did this ever get pulled off? wow, just listen to these people" kind of awesome.

Not sure what you were expecting being that it's winter in NZ and in winter it rains a lot. It's kinda close to Antarctica, so yeah it's going to be colder than the Bay Area.
