Hi Pascal1980

With all due respect to the others who have tried to respond to your question, I own the Northcote in black waxed calf and did own the Tetbury in dark brown waxed calf. Both will shine to a mirror. The two boots are on the same last but are quite different in appearance due to the obvious differences between a chukka and a derby boot.
the Northcote also has a storm welt which makes it a bit of an oddball. It's a very sleek last and quite an elongated soft chisel which is quite formal and then has a storm welt which isn't. I can only assume the designers were thinking along the lines of an inclement weather boot to be worn with a suit. I bought mine in London (I live in Australia) and they were my first CJ boots. they are special to me for that reason but I doubt I'd buy them again if I had my time again.

The Tetbury is similarly long and sleek but appears more sleek because it doesn't have the storm welt.

It's your call stylistically but I can certainly say either will hold a shine.
Thanks a lot Hurlazza4,

this helps a lot. Then I rather look for the chukka "Tetbury" when I am in London, or the dress derbies I found in the Parisian edition. I hope that from the Parisian edition a pair in my size still is available.

The Northcote is thus a hybrid. Here are rubber sole is usefull for the rainy and snowy weather, because the surfaces and cobble stone become slippery. Heavy cleated rubber soles are usually not needed in the city.

Best regards

Pascal

Something I've done that has helped me decide on buying a pair of shoes is searching the manufacturer's thread on SF for the model. If you search this thread for "Northcote" and "Tetbury," I bet you'll find lots of "in the wild" pictures of both.

Anything and everything catches on these days @Ypuh . So don't encourage and start a shoe mugging trend world over. We already have phone mugging and watch mugging become common everyday occurrence.

if it has to be Roughout, try the Indiana, last 378 is sleeker than the 228 of the Grizedale and more versatile.

It doesn't have to be roughout. I considered the Indiana as I have the 378 Eskdale 2 in suede. Instep is slightly lower on 378 than on 228 and still not fully comfortable, i probably shouldhave sized up but then it would be too long. I prefer the height of the Indiana, I think Grizedale is too long personally so not entirely sold on it, but want a less sleeker last.

I don't care much for iPhones or Rolexes, but flaunting Russian grain would potentially get me on a moped...

Hello everybody,

1.) back to the second-hand "Bloxham" wholcut in dark burnished grey:

- ironing-out the creases did not work. The large crease on the right shoe is so heavy, or large, that it occurs immediately again when one wears the shoe.

- The shoe is overstreched by the previous wearer, such that the C&J shoe trees in UK 8 fit in easily and do not fill-out the shoe completely. The shoe has the size UK 7.5 originally.

- Therefore the heavy crease above the midfoot of the right shoe presses painfully into the midfoot. With insoles it improves as the empty volume above the midfoot is reduced. Still the second-hand shoe is not the most comfortable to wear.

-> Any ideas how to improve the comfort? Relasting the shoes by C&J when I am in London?

-> I hope I can still return them over Vinted, because I purchsed them 2 weeks ago.

2.) The handgrade dress derby boot "Stroud":

- C&J customer service wrote back that the dress derby boot "Stroud" can be ordered as a special order. The special order is possible in their stores with prices starting from £840/€980/$1200.

Something like the "Stroud" would be exsactly what I am looking for. the handgrade leather soles hold very well in rain and in the winter, which is now almost over, and rubber soles are only needed in snow, which we have only for a few days or 2-3 weeks a year at most.

Enjoy your sunday and best regards

Return the shoes, if it’s still possible. You will ever bother with that crease. I think that relasting won't solve the problem and it's not worth the gamble.

Hello DorianGreen,

I think the same and send an email to the seller at Vinted.com. Let us hope that I can return the shoes. The costs of 200€ + 190€ (relasting) + 30€ (fitted insoles) = 420€ ist almost a new wholecut in grey dermaquesce or natural crust leather from Carmina or TLB Mallorca.

.. back to building up my IKEA wardrobe with the IVAR system...

Enjoy your sunday and best regards

Pascal

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
