I can't really help you with these shoes but there are a few similar alternatives that you might want to consider. There is the Carlos Santos Frank 7273 which is available in the Algarve or Braga patina, the Barker Lerwick in antique rosewood calf on the very nice 464 last with a "script sole" (though it is a G fit ) and the Cheaney Arthur iii in dark honey.

Wow, the Cheaney Arthur III looks great, my instant favourite.

Thanks DorianGreen,

this shoes looks "very British" with its round toe, and comfortable. I am in London for 3 weeks, 3 ESG & Sustainability conferences for finance and a larger new Artificial Intelligence project, such that I will drop by Jermyn Street anyway. I have to pick uo 4 refurbished C&J shoes and look for the "Montepellier 2", "Westgate 2", "Fairford" and the "Arthur III", besides the "Perth" from C&J.

Best regards

Pascal

We have not decided yet, because inviting the project team of 15 people can become very expensive in London. I hardly get used, however, to the British tradition of drinking relativly early after work in the large pub around the corner of our office. The finance folks are drinking a lot I think!

Otherweise I like what I do :) !

You can take your lessons from the show 'Industry' on HBO.

Always enjoyed the pub-part, but unfortunately, as much as that skill is appreciated, it's not sustainable or what you can put on your resumé.

About the "Industry" is about the financial industry?

I worked at a "German Bank" subsidiary, its asset manager, and heard and experience some stories myself  .

Out of curiosity, what is the sentiment at those conferences since Davos seemed to make it clear ESG is dying and climate has fallen out of favor. Europe is now questioning their abundance of regulation since their economy is in the dumps.

I'm trying to identify a pair of C&J shoes but cannot make out the model name from the print inside (starts with HARxxx?). They look to be a handgrade model on a city sole, which is not available on the C&J website.

Does anyone have a clue?

365 is wider at the ball, and the toe doesn't taper as much. But 378 has more height in the toe box. I take both in the same size.

Thank you for this input, much appreciated.

Does anyone else have any experience - specifically if half size down on 365 provides more / less / equal room across the toes vs 378 (e.g. 10 365 vs 10.5 378..)?

Appreciate any help!

To the chap looking for lighter Oxfords - I have the Egerton in antique tan and can confirm they are beautiful, perfect in the summer with a blue suit. Half a size too small for me so currently listed for sale in a size 10....).

I would also agree that English shoemakers definitely seem to provide a higher instep, even on their more contoured lasts. I'm always amazed with the height of the instep & ankle size C&J appears to cater for, it doesn't seems anatomically feasible to me!

I also wonder why English lasts usually have such wide heels.

Yes, the Egerton is beautiful.

Hello davejones22,

the Egerton looks excellently! I am wearing a UK 7.5 / EU 41,5 / US 8.5 in the Crockett & Jones shoes, and a UK 7 in their boots. Hence a UK 10 is way to large for me unfortunately.

Question: Is anyone of you wearing the oxford "Albany 4" in Ivywood? On the photos in the winter sale it looks to me like a light hazelnut brown, which is inbetween mid-brown and tan / light brown?

Best regards

I was just checking that model, as the Egerton seems to have been discontinued. My size is sold out, unfortunately. The Ivywood colour looks gorgeous to me.

It does, the Ivywood, which also seems to be a lighter brown, something like hazelnut brown. I like such lighter shades of brown for blue suits.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
