Yes, I'd say by an inch. I would suggest to bring them to a good alteration tailor, he would give you the right advice.

Edit: You can also get some advice here:

Thanks for the link. I had them altered by a local seamstress so no real advice on length. I’ll go to a tailor instead as you’ve suggested. I hope that the fact they’re too slim will be less apparent when they’re the appropriate length.

Glad to help, if I can. Trousers are generally too narrow nowadays (at least for my taste), not allowing them to drape properly.

By the way, is it your wedding suit?

No thankfully! They are from Walker Slater though as I bought them cheap on eBay to test the fit, as I was thinking of getting my suit from them. Maybe time for a rethink.

Was pleasantly surprised by an early arrival on my doorstep today. These turned out pretty good.

Congratulations 🙌 They’re stunning! I bought these the first time they were available and despite the advice on SF about how tough Zug is to break in, I found them to be comfortable right out of the box.

I thought to add this picture, courtesy of KarlHungus, as a reference for the length by the width of your trousers.

I would love to see a photo of your Crockett and Jones collection!

Well, it's not that much and not that diverse:

Pembroke TSG (3 pairs) [325]
Pembroke DBSG [325]
Coniston TSG (2 pairs) [325]
Coniston DBSG [325]
Skye 3 Chestnut [335]
Lindrick Whisky Shell [325]
Ascott Dark Brown Shell [325]
Maddox by Bodileys & C&J Suede Dark Brown [72]

On the way out will be:
Coniston Chestnut Milled Calf [325]
Coniston Black Scotch Grain [325]
Skye 2 Burgundy Shell [335, and 335 too roomy to keep this juwel]
(all UK 7.5, the Skye almost not worn, the Conistons pretty much like new)

Unless I add Loafers and unless I find an even greater fit for shoes in a different C&J last than the 325, I think I won't add any new shoes from C&J. 325 is perfect for me in boots, and great but not the ultimate fit for shoes. When well worn in I'm approaching the Oxford look with thin summer socks, which is no issue with boots.
Alden Barrie works more regular in that regard and fits overall even better. I'll be adding a 990 and 99026 to my 9901 and 975 next.

Got a new picture:

Another stylish combination. You seem, like me, to wear constantly tailored trousers.

Thanks, mate! 🌞

Yeah, I do and more and more so.

The older I get, the more I go for the classic elegant, generous, little loose fit (opposed to the wide loose fit that is in these days and opposed to regular fit). And at 58 it meets my 'human style' anyway.
Apart from that MTM offers creative options you rarely find in shops or which happen in a fit not matching my needs.
And hey, one less Shell bootsis four MTM trousers made from fine cloth of my choice. Once you got it perfect, you don't want to go back, right? 🍷

How does the 72 last fit compared to the standard 314 on the Bostons, which fit me exceptionally well. I have a high instep and arch and am wide across the ball of the foot. I'm strongly considering these but wonder if it might be worth the extra money to get the Bostons that I know will fit well.

I have an update for us as I have just received an answer from Crockett & Jones! 😎

My question was:

„For my slightly wider feet, please be so kind to rank these 4 lasts for the width of their toe boxes:

- 72 (archival last, I have this in a Loafer)
- 325 (I have many Pembrokes and Conistons, but 1/2 a size bigger than the 72 loafers)
- 314 (unknown for me)
- 341 (unknown for me)

Effectively I want to know, if any of these lasts has a wider toe box than the last 72 gives.“

The answer from C&J:

„The 314 and 72 lasts are almost identical in the toe box width and length, but the 314 is a high walled last, meaning there is more depth in the toe box. The 325 and 341 lasts are almost identical to each other in the toe box and are about 3mm wider in the tread width and the toe box than the 314 and 72. Both the 325 and 341 are also slightly longer in the toe box than the 314 and 72.

So to answer your question in short, the 325 and 341 lasts are slightly wider in the toe box compared to the 72.“
