Buying a gorgeous boot for 1400 € is just as „silly“ and the same great fun as having lots of 700 € boots. As we do. You can't discuss passion™.

Apart from the essentials like affording food and so, I think the most important things in life are not the ones we need, but those we treat ourselves to. 🌞
I think this is well said and to the point. We have all gone over the edge long ago...

Hatch grain cordovan Islays for order.
Since I saw the C&J email I’ve been pondering pulling the trigger on these. I’d been thinking anyway about a DB Shell Islay, but am now wondering if the cash is better spent on a single MTO that ticks more of the boxes…

Standard Dainite isn’t a great selling point… all of my other Islay are on Ridgeway, and I absolutely love the extra comfort and traction!

Who picked up the Coniston in the Hatchgrain Shell? How has it aged? How’s it been to care for?

Decisions, decisions…

So I'll be visiting the flagship store in December during vacation to have a proper fitting done. I'll be looking at what they have in stock but potentially also considering going the MTO route if I'm excited by the fitment but not excited about current options.

Current reason for posting: what are some black boots that C&J has made that are "standouts" or "must-haves"? Be it previously offered, currently offered, or MTOs. Not looking for something super formal in nature. My current go-to black boots are black shell NST's from Alden but I'm just not as enamored with them as I'd like to be. I'm downsizing my collection to things that are either "special" or "go-to" pairs.
As luck would have it, there’s a GMTO for Islay’s in J&FJ Baker’s Black Russian grain nearing completion… you could join on and confirm your sizing with Alex during your trip…

I picked up the Coniston in hatch grain shell, and they are thankfully restraining my clicky finger on the Islays! Hatch adds interest and you can wipe with a soft cloth and they are good to go.
I also saw the Islays in zug at York station earlier in the week on a gentleman queuing at Costa. They looked amazing and I’ve spent the week kicking myself for not buying them, so avoid my mistake and dive in!

The bad vibes ? Thats putting it lightly. This TSG vs DBSG thing has become a serious matter now. It's turned into Tan Crotch Grain vs Dark Brown Crotch Grain. So its either theirs or ours now.....
:fence:
Pick a side @ha er
Nah, it’s own both
