(Un)fortunately, nothing in the game for me. But if I were into loafers, I would for sure go for the green shell one. And the Lindrick of course is fantastic, too. But I have already all Lindricks I would ever want to have.

I'm debating signing on for the GMTO black Baker's replica Russian Reindeer Islays, but this hatch grain shell Islay offering AND the shell Lindrick are tempting too...

I already have two other boots in shell cordovan (not C&J but Grant Stone and Iron Boots) and am interested in the replica Russian Reindeer. Any characteristics that would sway you to one or the other if you had to choose?

The black Baker's Russian seems unique to C&J. I'd lean that way if I had to choose

How many wears to date ? And has it softened? My pair had a lot of squeaking and crinkling from the leather/shell. Still does.

Hmm, at least 7 but not more than 10 whole days (14 hours each roundabout), 2 of them in the rain. It has softened a bit, not as much as calf would have, but I haven't perceived it as uncomfortable. And yeah, it still gives aching sounds. 😃

Almost insanely bad timing with the factory gmto.

I have that one and the Lindrick so only one of note to me is the green Harvard but even that’s a stretch at £800.

Timing is as such. This GMTO is a Skye 335 on Ridgeway. So no comparison really with the factory GMTOs which are 365 and 375 on Dainite . We have 6 participants. But just running another round of reminders incase anyone else wants to come on board

A loafer at £800 is indeed a stretch. And any shoe/boot entering into a 4 digit figure creates a mental pricing barrier for most consumers and enthusiasts in my opinion

€1400 is silly money for a 'regular' boot in my eyes. A pair of Tricker's or TSG Coniston's cost half that, and other than a different leather, I don't see much difference.

On a lucky day you might even get ~3 pairs at the C&J/Tricker's quality level for the price of this one Islay boot, so yeah, personally there's a bit of a mental barrier.

Those are fantastic, but they are too similar to my dark brown scotch grain to justify getting them.

ETA: Took another look and it is really killing me not to order these. Saved by the one-pair-in, one-pair-out rule.

Buying a gorgeous boot for 1400 € is just as „silly“ and the same great fun as having lots of 700 € boots. As we do. You can't discuss passion™.

Apart from the essentials like affording food and so, I think the most important things in life are not the ones we need, but those we treat ourselves to. 🌞

It’s all pretty insane, but if it makes us happy and our wives don’t leave us, it’s fine.

I admire thy "one pair in; one pair out" rule. Whilst you have been saved by this rule, i am not hopeful for the souls of other gentlemen onboard this vessel. For they are cursed by the damned spirit of Goodyear and their hearts are forever welted 🧟‍♂️

Are you sure? You don’t sound sure. There’s still time.
