You ask where the Puma hate comes from?

There are definitely nice Pumas out there, but around where I live they've become the official shoes of the junior high-high school, tacky Diesel/TR/Rock and Republic jeans, bucket of gel hair, frosted tips, etcetera crowd.

It's their official shoe. Official.

QFT

amongst the style challenged, puma is def played out in boston (doesn't help that the speedcats are ugly); i suppose it's not a matter of them being played out, just a matter of ugly. the classic models are okay though. but hey to each his own. rock em if you like em. rock em hard.

I have a brown pair of speedcats and I love them. I wear a size 14 and there one of the few non-clunky shoes I can get. I am also a fan of the Onitsukas.

Honestly I think hating them for being popular is just as dumb as liking them for being popular.

I like R&R jeans....*grumble grumble*

But you are right about Puma ubiquity. What are these Onitsukas every body is referring to?

I don't really care for Speedcats (they kind of remind me of ballet slippers; does this make sense to anyone but me?) but I have a pair of Ligas I like to break out on occasion.

I don't really get the Puma hate, either-- or, at least, not in the context that Adidas is generally accepted. The two brands are, of course, closely related historically and their aesthetics are basically the same, in my opinion.

Man...I freaking love Puma. Where I live all the teens wear vans and nike dunks which totally piss me off. Recently people have been wearing more Pumas, but their very boring pumas like the classic puma 10 black suede, so I still stick to Puma. They have very daring styles but some of them look reallly nice imo.

There is nothing better for the casual tearing up of mountain roads than the Puma Speedcat. Even if I didn't like the style of them, I'd own two pairs. I only regret not having more.

Puma speedcats are horrible driving shoes. Not only are they not made out of nomex, so they wont let you wear them on the track, but are so poorly inforced on the outside of the right foot that I wore a hole in them in two weeks from heel-toe shifting. The heels on the speedcat are also not that good for driving. The speed cat is more or less a poser race shoe. a much better driving shoe are pilotis http://www.apexperformance.net/cartg...id=1145&cid=16 I got three pairs and love them, no one wears them and those that do are real drivers, not the driver hypebeasts that wear speedcats.

True Real SpeedCats are FIA legal, most low speedcats (or Replicats as the proper name) that you get at say Zappos are not, because they are not fireproof. I personally love my SpeedCats for track days, I only go once a month so I cant justfiy buying some "track only shoes." Besides the Pro AutoXers that organize the track days usually wear plain old street shoes.
