I always preferred the Rod Lavers over Stan's because the toe cap leather of the SS's would always crack.

Yet...I have purchased more SS's vs RL's in my lifetime.

I think all except the wave runners. While definitely eye catching, I haven’t seen any shoes that take them as inspiration or a template, (the opposite would be Chucks). And I think that that last ingredient is needed to give them that special sauce of “forever”, just sorta in the culture so deep that many might not even know it.

The new (last decade) RLs are stiff as a board. I prefer the silhouette to the SS, but they were not comfortable at all.

Yep. I haven't purchased a pair in over a decade just because of that.
