Interesting technology-
Apparently, in addition to being smaller and more energy efficient, this also produces a smooth sweeping second hand, rather than the familiar one second ticking of quartz movements.New Watch Motor Seeks to Outsmart the Smartwatch

Yeah, historically, it had the tuning fork movement and more recently has done an electrostatic movement that both have sweeping second hands. And of course, there's the Grand Seiko Spring Drive, which is a sort of hybrid mechanical quartz movement. Obviously, this isn't the first non-mechanical watch with a sweeping second hand, it just seems like it has potential to be smaller and cheaper than the common quartz movements in something like 80% of watches being sold currently.Doesn’t Bulova already have a watch with a quartz movement with a sweeping second hand?
Also, Seiko has their VH31 meca-quartz movement.Yeah, historically, it had the tuning fork movement and more recently has done an electrostatic movement that both have sweeping second hands. Does that one have a smooth sweep? I don't think I've ever seen one in action. Also, Seiko has their VH31 meca-quartz movement.
