Plain Toe or Not to Plain Toe

I wanted to run this one by the fellas.

I don't go to a lot of weddings or funerals in my mid-30s. I have been with the same company since my early 20's, so no interviews. I might wear a suit once or twice a year now. The rest of the time as dressed up as I get is sport coats, mainly with jeans, but sometimes with chinos or dress pants.

I have over 40 pairs of shoes. A good variety of Chelsea Boots, Chukka Boots, Oxfords, Derbys, Wingtips, Penny Loafers, Bit Loafers, Monk Straps, Casual Sneakers, etc.

However, in looking over my collection I realized that I don't seem to gravitate towards plain to shoes. Really of my dress/dress casual shoes, the only ones that are plain toe are my Chelsea boots. I don't have any lace up shoes (oxfords or derby's) that are plain toe in brown or black. I like the way they look in the store, but when I have owned them in the past, I just never wore them that much.

Usually for work when I wear business casual I will wear a black cap toe Oxford (as my nicest option), a dark brown cap toe quarter brouge (when I wear dress pants), a cap toe medium brown monk strap, a brown bit-loafer in the summer or a black Chelsea boot in the winter (mostly with jeans or chinos).

Am I missing something by not having more plain to shoes?

I have a pair of oxfords I wear occasionally. No rhyme or reason just when I feel the need usually with a suit if I wear one

I've found that the only time I need plain toe dress shoes are formal events like evening balls, but even then a high-polish cap-toe oxford will do. So you probably aren't missing out on anything.
