I like the style and it is not too expensive. On the other hand, it is not only wool, as it should be.

Short of buying a well-preserved WWII through Korean War-era model (they are out there yet), which are of very high quality, look at Sterlingwear of Boston, the current supplier to the US Navy. I haven't laid hands on one yet so can't vouch for their quality, but the commercial models I've looked at so far all fall short of military-grade pea coats. Good luck.

The thing is that I have a Navy Doublebreasted peacoat from J. Crew already. I just wanted something more military style.

I originally wanted this from H&M, but never saw it released in stores...

Cimablue: I checked out the website, but they only have 4 peacoats available, none of which were military style.

I had one of those. I tried recent navy coats, then the older Kersey wool vintage peacoats. The Kersey IMO is much much better. It depends on what you want. The kersey wool coats seem to have more structure to them, and look dressier than the melton wool.

It was twenty years ago today,
Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play
They've been going in and out of style
But they're guaranteed to raise a smile.
So may I introduce to you
The act you've known for all these years,
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Really like those brass buttons. You could get a long sized surplus peacoat, swap the buttons and have the arms shortened by a tailor.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
