Not an expert, but the way they shoot the scene makes it look like something from Renaissance Fair.

Compare to the Blackwater Bay fights, the siege of the Wall, or even Hound vs Brienne, its certainly is disappointing

WTF was Dayne doing dual wielding though? He had the famed sword Dawn and carried the title Sword of the Morning. That was just for TV.

I got confused when he seemingly spends all day sharpening a single large sword, and then when the enemy comes, he sticks it in the sand??!. And then pulls out two more swords from their scabbards to fight with! What was the point of the first sword, then??

I know I'm being a stickler but the fights just look schlockly, which removes any tension from the scene. You can tell their using prop swords that lack any real weight, so the scene ends up looking like kids play fighting instead of adults trying to kill each other. I know actor safety is a concern, but IIRC Viggo Mortensen insisted on sing a real (albeit dull) sword in LOTR to make the fights look "real."

Hector vs. Achilles in "Troy," Aragorn vs. Lurtz in LOTR, the final fight scene in "Rob Roy" are all cool fights because they look and feel real. Troy was maybe a bit to stylized but still good.

They make Ser Arthur Dayne duel wield swords because "OMG he's so good" but it just looks stupid. Like he's just parrying two-handed longsword strkes with a flick of his wrist. Why even block that weak ass hit.

^^^ Sword in the ground pulled with right hand. Sword in scabbard pulled with left hand.

This show has so run out of ideas that they now have a scene of Tyrion talking about talking.

And the sad part is that that scene was actually one of the better ones in the whole episode.

historical onehanded long swords were usually around 3lbs, they seemed more or less like replicas swords you see in HEMA videos, they just didn't put enough force in their strikes for the most part so it felt choreographed

The fights in Troy were pretty realistic, though a bit stylized, especially some of the weird stuff Brad Pitt did. Gladiator was a good one too for the most part. Since I have more combat experience than just about anyone it makes me wish I could be in these movies. I would of kicked Russell Crows ass.

Always loved the flourishes.

"One moment, good Ser, while I dazzle you with my twirling sword."

Drop. Clang.

"****! Wait."

Stab.

You're a part time gladiator? You have your own fightclub? Multiple personality disorder and your other identity is a viking?
