1971 documentary about council estates in Battersea :

Some Skin/Suedehead lads at the 36:10 mark

Cool stuff never seen it before, vic reeves also makes an appearance at 40:15

Its kind of interesting how they mention about people having nothing to do on the estates, it is pretty much the same situation now. Nothing really changes does it.

I've never lived on a British estate, but I grew up in one of those 'terrible' housing estates in Warsaw. I found there was plenty to do: lots of other children to make friends with, run around the estate, discover new hideouts all the time, etc. I imagine it beats growing up in some isolated suburban nightmare/cultural vacuum where there *really* is nothing to do...

i think it depends what kind of council estate you live on, semi detached or high rise, and if you are a sociable person in general. Which i am not really even if i try to be.

Got to realize things have not exactly been pleasant in my area ever since the industries have been shut down etc, and living in the middle of nowhere does not help.

Bought pair of vintage Stuart Mcguire crepe soled brogues. Caveat emptor really applies to second hand shoes. Original owner underpronated like crazy when he walked leaving heels incredibly unevenly worn. They'll definitely be my go to when I want something smarter in wet weather though.

They are all from the Daily Mirror. I did have the exact date of the fella and girl pics and I am sure they were late 69 and the others followed in 70

I need to look where I have this noted somewhere and get back to you

Better late than never

The Daily Mirror photo of the boy and girl in sheepskins facing camera was 10 October 1969

I don't know how to enlarge but the date is top r/h side

I will leave in your capable hands M-O-M.

I just found it in a odd file as I try and keep all the old pics together from way back on this thread

Good Luck with the book

The soles are Biltrite's "cushion crepe" so it's not as gummy as plantation crepe but also not nearly as dense as a regular rubber sole. Like a cross between real gum and the vibram wedge soles. Hopefully they wont be banana peels in the wet. I had to shave and shape about 1/4" off one side of the heel with a jigsaw so that I could stand with my normal posture.
