It was if you ask AskAndy.

I feel like it’s a comparison that might be true in 2007, right now it’s just in a sea of commodity, for chino I have no problem going J crew B&W, or PRL if they still have none elastin stuff. Surprisingly RRL officer chino has stayed at ~$240 over many years

Agreed. Probably more in-group cache and nationalist associations than anything else. I still ordered a pair of M1s from "Dann-Online" on the chance they might be holding deadstock. Measurements wise, M1 was the only chino matching what I was looking for.

how about these

PRL big chino

whitman

big cord (not chino but I kind like these)

or I think you're really tall (have some stretch though)

Olderbest has shorter inseam and return is probably more annoying, these are the wider pants (they have a ton of fit, these are on the wider side)

Sizing's too small on the older best stock, but RL ones could also work.

Can confirm that the PRL big chino is awesome. Have a pair of the distressed ones with the metal buttons and they’re my goto summer chino. Whitman is good too but not as big as vintage Andrew pants.

Not sure what you’re looking for, but O’Connell’s is known to carry Bills Khakis old stock.

@clee1982 provided an impressive list of vendors. Perhaps you can benefit from his proclivity for chinos purchasing. My own addiction is in researching sources & solutions….*

I wrote these responses to other chino inquiries in a few different, older threads: “Where do you get your classic chinos?”;
“Reasonably priced, quality chinos” and “Desperately looking for 100% Chinos”. (*Believe it or not, I’m not even a “chinos guy”.)

Hopefully, you find something helpful in the provided information.

was Bill's khaki original "good" to start with I thought it was just fine value brand
In the late 80's to the 90's most khakis were similar in fit and using lighter weight khaki twill made off-shore (The Gap, Banana Republic, etc.) but Bill's offered a heavier weight, made in USA, straight fuller cut similar to 40's and 50's style military. They soon became a staple brand in independent, traditional men's clothing stores across the country. The fit was especially appealing to older and larger guys and was counter to the fashion fit/look of that period. (This was also the period where every "dad" had a leather flight style jacket).

yup but it’s not 2007 anymore though, plenty heavy weight chino out there, and so many choice in cut

I’m tempted at the big chino but I just did a cleaning last week and I found nearly 10 pair chino (dress to rugged and more if you count khaki color in wool) in smallest different shade difference so that’s clearly a disease need to stop…

I'm imagining you swaddled in a large pile of chinos.

This was also the period where every "dad" had a leather flight style jacket

Incidentally "Dad's Style" is the aesthetic I'm going for.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
