This is a common style in India. It was popularized by Prime Minister Nehru, hence the "Nehru Collar". These look more informal. In India, they tend to be more formal - made out of twills and worsted fabrics and worn as evening wear.

P.S. You can get a tailor in India to make a superbly fitted jacket in a great cloth for significantly less than these jackets.

I always call it mandarin collar, clearly my own bias haha

Only the lower middle class where classic menswear and bespoke.
I stand by my premise that the easiest way to know if someone actually has old money is to find out the family nicknames. The more classic the actual name and weirder the nickname is the older the money is.

Saw that come across RealReal. Obscure gamble there for the flipper who picked it up for $1100.

Here's a another tip: if you can make it out to Montreal, Samuelsohn has an annual sample sale where you can find pretty much all types of tailored clothing. My friend picked up a tailcoat for about $200 Canadian. Won't have the handwork of an RLPL tailcoat, which retails for $10K USD, but a steal nonetheless. Other tailoring options were also in the $100-200 range.

They had a sample sale in Toronto a few years back in what looked like a meat locker, and I picked up 2 sport coats for about $100 Canadian each - and one of them was made for the CEO of the company. (Doesn't make it any better, but makes it slightly more interesting).

I want one, but I'd skip the small pox look. Kid leather? Suede?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
