Wondering why velvet, besides evening wear, has such a limited use.

I think a black or earthtone velvet jacket can be worn during the daytime with jeans and suede loafers for a nice casual "city" look or for travel. IMO, jewel tone colors are best for more formal looks such as grey flannels and evening events so yes, those would be more limited.

I agree, it can be pulled off. But probably limited to single breasted.

I wear both husbands and TF, Husbands is definitely more extreme in my book

I love the Husbands style, but I've yet to buy anything - mainly due to sizing concerns and price.

I'm curious about what makes it extreme?

flared trouser mostly I suppose, you can get something more “normal” from them too but then why bother.

I think their sizing is pretty straight forward other than narrow shoulder.

Scuderi makes for Sid Mashburn as well. I think the No. 1 level of their tailoring is Scuderi. I have two and they are very well done.

I agree, Husbands and Saman Amel share a similar aesthetics, mostly inspired to the 70s, and yes, the latter seems to have a more relaxed look in comparison with the sharp silhouette of the former. They also seem to prefer the use of few minimalist colours, as black, dark brown, white, grey, beige and camel.

By the way, I think that the most trousers are straight cut, not flared, but, as I noticed in another post, you need some tapering in order to make the leg look straight.

That’s not how Saman Amel used to look though, I think it’s a fairly recent thing (2~3 years ago). Husbands also has way more vibrant color than the “my stereotypical Northern Europe architect” look

They do, but the dominant colours are still the shades aforementioned, as I see.

not a big fan of linen shirts with most suits and sportcoats unless very casual. Linen just rumples too much. Linen-cotton will be better. Agree with light blue/pink to start. Since you'll generally want to wear them open-necked, consider a button-down or one-piece collar.
