Could anyone comment on the how the overall quality and quality of leather are for your TLBs vs. roughly similarly priced J Fitzpatrick and Carlos Santos shoes? I suppose the higher end TLBs are more competitive with the former and some of the less expensive lines with the latter. Are the overall value of all of these roughly the same?

I have a few pairs of TLB shoes and find them as good, if not better, than both of those. Especially the Artista range which is excellent (and great value for money too). The leather is top quality. One thing I've noticed is how well they age. I do take good care of my shoes so that may be part of it, but the leather wears very nicely with good creases and shine and they mould to your feet. As far as value goes, they are very good value considering the quality of the shoes (even with the poor £ to euro exchange rate at the moment).

So, i am looking for a black cap toe oxford.

I have narrowed it down to 2 options.

Carmina on their Rain last

And TLB Mallorca Artista on their Goya last.

Thanks. i am also a bit confused between the two. since both of them are approximately the same price..Go for something tried and tested by many people or go for the new kid on the block

I'm biased of course, but if you just look at the specifications it's evident that you get quite a lot for the money with Artista (which has been the aim all along). But if you like the look and fit of Carmina it might of course still be a better choice for you.

During my limited time in the trunk show, no brainer to choose TLB Artista over Carmina, with the same factors Jesper explained above. It's kinda like you're comparing CJ Hand Grade and their main line, with an even bigger margin, yet in the same price.

TLB are the new kid on the block - as you say - but they are backed up with years of experience in the business. And the proof is there to see when you see the shoes!

The Artista is a better made shoe spec wise, but I think the biggest difference is last shape. Having tried both, the Picasso last is a better fit for my feet than the Rain last. The Rain has a less pronounced width difference between the waist and toe area. The Picasso last fit-wise feels more akin to the Forest last to me.

i have slightly wide feet. so i prefer some space in the toe area.

what would u recommend is better for slightly wide feet ?

PS: this is on the Goya last which is suppose to be a round shape

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
