I am getting married in a few months and am going back and forth on the fabric I’d like to use for my custom tux. I’m torn between using Loro Piana Super 200s pure wool (260 gr) and Zegna Trofeo Australian wool (250 gr). The wedding will be in April in Florida and will be outdoors.

What would you do? Both around the same price and look/ feel very similar. I'm very torn, and any guidance would be incredibly appreciated.

What would I post pictures of? Two black fabrics?

The tuxedo itself is being custom made and will look the same regardless of the fabric I choose.
If they look, feel and cost the same, you'll pretty much get similar fabrics. Both companies are reputable makers of fine fabrics, there's not going to be any hidden benefits to one or the other.

Me personally would pick Loro Piana just because I like that name better. It's as good of a reason as any.

Oh, and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Thank you! After much deliberation and counsel, I think I’m going to go with the Loro Piana. However, I’ve been talked into going with the S 170s as opposed to the 200s. I’m being told it will be more durable and drape better.

I think that's a good choice. It's easy to get carried away with the superfine wool, but those fine fibres can be more fragile. And a custom made tuxedo is something you can wear for many years to come, so it makes sense to invest in something that will last. S 170 is still a very soft, fine fibre.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
