Alex Kabbaz made good boxer shorts, and Emma Willis has them. But Alex is gone and Emma only uses Italian linen. Mercer isn’t interested. Any other options people have found?

I have some from Linoto and have bought some for family members. Good stuff imo. I've ordered natural oatmeal, pale blue, and indigo. All three are great, yarn dyed. The natural oatmeal's a bit heavier than the others, which is nice in cooler weather. Probably not made to Kabbaz standards, but not as pricy either. Although a comment on Kabbaz's website by a "Dmitry" says he wishes they had a channel waistband, and the Linoto ones do. I think this is Dmitry's blog, where he explains what that means and why he prefers it:
Linoto's bands are the same as the T&A ones on the blog.

Inexpensive, also— relatively speaking. Just ordered two pair to try. Thanks.

Wow. I did not know that Alex died. I just read his obituary and he did much more than make super high quality shirts. What an interesting guy and a fountain of knowledge to those of us who date back to the early days of this forum and AAAC.

Concordia,

I am curious what are your thoughts about Italian linen?

I think they get the actual linen from Belgium or Western France where the best linen is grown.

Then they weave and or finish the fabric.

Softer. Flimsier, if you put a negative spin on it. Irish starts out a little coarser but drapes well and ages effortlessly.

Thank you - OK, I understand.

Side notes:

The flax that most Irish linen is made from is not from Ireland and hasn't been for a long time.

The Belgian flax and the Western French flax is the best.

I understand completely what you are saying about the weight and feeling. The Italian fabric makers are masters at finishing and probably much of their linen is going to be used for shirts hence the softness.

What would be perfect for the subject at hand is beautifully finished Belgian linen but with a heavier weight.

I don't remember seeing that but it must exist...

Maison Hellard might be what you are looking for. Not sure if the plain weave options would provide enough ventilation, though.

Concordia,

I think you found a great linen business - I love dealing with small family businesses like this.

From there website:

Our linen comes from Normandy and is woven by expert hands in Italy.
We propose a timeless, masculine aesthetic paired with a soft hand for comfort and versatility, to suit every gentleman and wardrobe.

Maison Hellard might be a little to heavy though. To be honest, I never tried linen boxers because I didn't think they wear particular comfortably. Maybe I give them a try and experiment with different linens. I recently worked a lot with some italian linen from Grandi&Rubinelli, which is a little heavier and sturdier than most italian linens I handled so far.

I forget which shop Alex got his from. Definitely sturdy at first glance, but breathed well and now is very comfortable without wadding up like a handkerchief. In contrast to Mazarin, for example.

Not sure about the count. Probably not the very finest.

I make boxers all the time. I never had a request for linen boxers.
Easy enough to make. Do you want the high count linen or more of a standard linen.
Most Irish linen is not woven in Ireland....
Do you also make traditional French Back elasticless shorts?

I recently made those for a Broadway show. The version with buttons on the back. Not the strings. Send me a photo of the version you like
Made a full singlet for the show "Some Like it Hot".
