I should confess that hardly anyone uses it now, apart from historians or the guy who measures you for custom bike leathers. I'm fairly sure I'm the only Englishman campaigning for its preservation. Here the general public thinks of the DR/Lancer as just a "biker jacket". Every time a biker-style fashion jacket is released, it has the Lancer front. And people associate the look more with Kate Moss than Marlon Brando or James Dean, who are pretty much forgotten. Kate deserves commission for every Lancer jacket sold. Even sites for bikers can't make up their mind what term to use - they go with retro/classic/cruiser/vintage, but never lancer. Nearly all bikers go for a straight zip, which they see as modern. They associate the diagonal zip with Harleys, which are not really bikes, just props for gay middle-aged leather fetishists.

The Germans had a huge influence on bike gear but that tends to be overlooked - the Brits and Americans want to take all the credit. Germany was also supposedly the first place to start series production of motorcycles. I'm still kicking myself for missing out on this '40s German jacket which recently went for £135/$180.

A fair number of English sites and catalogues still use the term "Lancer front", which probably makes no sense to 95% of all customers.

I received my first suede jacket from No Man Walks Alone and I couldn't be happier! It's this one:

The only issue I have is that I don't know what to wear underneath it. What would look good with this jacket? It's quite slim so I can't wear anything too bulky. Any ideas?

The off white turtleneck I got recently would look great with that, I think. And any beige, white or black too.

observe, 2002 dior homme leather currently listed on grailed

though i strongly dislike the asymmetric hem here i think the rest is quite good. it seems challenging to find this sort of harrington cut- i have found that typically if the zip isn't diagonal, the jacket waist is elasticated (elasticated waist does not suit my frame). i like the shirtlike collar here, i like that the pockets don't sit on the outside, i like the zip right up the center. i think the epaulettes look good but certainly aren't something i need in a leather jacket. Though I prefer the jacket were beltless it isn't a dealbreaker.

what brands/ styles should i be looking at? i would really appreciate some help here..

I remember when it was every kid's dream to own a Hedi's jacket. Could never chase that expensive train lol :)

That looks quite a bit like TOJ/Falcon Garments collared moto. You could check with FG if they would do something custom about the pockets.

Atelier Bertrand (another SF affiliate) posted something similar recently as well.

Those deerskin jackets look great. I like how the short one gathers at the base of the back and how the long one shades dark brown/black to light brown beautifully. Like that stitching/padding on the forearms as well. @Rais these are yours (assume so, but maybe I'm misreading)? Pretty perfect for you I think.

In re. a few posts up... @Atelier Bertrand leathers look very nice in their product photos. Between that and the construction the jackets look very clean and minimalist. Will have to revisit their thread.

And a few final thoughts: I've been prowling the Lewis Leathers website and beyond the fact that this is a definite path to dressing more like Ronnie Wood:
1. I really like their padded racing jackets.
2. "Super Monza." Yes!
3. Their boots are oddly appealing to me.
4. This could be a dangerous gateway to multicolored leather jackets for me.

That's it.

Yes, both mine. I got the black one a few weeks ago and the brown was given to me. The brown looks pretty good on me I think but I need to work out how to coordinate the black one still.

I can't wait for Frank Cowperwood's Best of 2018.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
